The end of Sunset Song when Chris sees Ewan walking up the hill to Kinraddie, after she finds out he won't be coming home again.

Another of mine is the end of The Amber Spyglass, when Lyra & Will sit on the bench in the Botanic Gardens.....again avoiding spoilers!

I am with Nannarose too, could never read that aloud to children without crying! Also, the part in Finn Family Moomintroll where Moomin is changed by the hobgoblins hat and only his mother recognises him - “It’s all right now, my dear, “ said Moominmamma, “You see, I shall always know you whatever happens.”

Sunset Song and the bit towards the end where Chris sees Ewan and forgives him. I cry every time I read it. I used to teach it and cried then too!

Was the tv adaptation different from the book, then? Annoyingly I haven’t got the book with me and really wanted to read it after watching the series.

Little Women - politicised me. I don’t remember crying but I was sad and angry about the plight of the poverty stricken mother and pleased the Marsh family helped.

I had to find the book first. There are many parts in Grapes of Wrath where I cried. This is just one:

I think we're talking about His Dark Materials Maybee70? The TV adaptation was quite close to the books, but changed the timeline around a bit. I re-read The Amber Spyglass after the series ended. I'd forgotten how weird it was! I do love it though.

Yes. I loved The Subtle Knife having been disappointed with the first adaptation. I never got round to reading The Subtle knife. I guess I fell in love with Lee and Hester in the tv series!
