We at HelpAge International, together with the United Nations Population Fund, are running a competition to find outstanding and inspirational people aged 60+.
The competition is called 60 over 60 and the aim is to compile a unique list of 60 older people who have inspired many with their achievements. These will be judged by a panel and the winner announced in the international media in January 2013.
Our list of inspirational people will prove that age is not a barrier to success and will recognise the contributions made by older people. By celebrating ageing, we hope it will help generate debate to redefine old age and promote a positive attitude towards the growing number of people over the age of 60. We want to shift the negative mind-set and perceptions often associated with old age.
The competition is free to enter and open to everyone. You can nominate anyone you like – from Nelson Mandela to your next-door neighbour.
More information can be found here: www.7billionactions.org/60over60.
We'd love to hear your stories.
Feel free to post here in this discussion thread (but don't forget to nominate them through the 7billionsactions.org website too!)
