I have an envelope full of used stamps , are there any charities I could pass these on to?

Me ditto tanith. I also have pairs of glasses- very old fashioned but not a scratch on them. I hate to throw them away.

I used to help at the MS Therapy Centre Lothian: 40c Swanfield, Bonnington Road, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 5RX. At that time they collected used stamps to help with fundraising - it is funded almost entirely by donations. Thay had an arrangement with a local stamp shop to buy the stamps. It didn't make a vast amount, but every little helps.

Ther only problem was that if the stamps are packed loosely in the envelope, they all squish up to one end so that when it goes through the machine at the sorting office it comes up as a thick package and needs more postage - and they have to pay for this at their end as excess postage. It can be more than the stamps are worth.

A lot of opticians will take unwanted glasses. They are checked over and sent to places where opticians are few and far between. Specsavers does, and I think Boots does too.

Count The Kicks, a charity that advises pregnant women, have local collectors who can recycle stamps, biscuit wrappers and other household waste.

Elegran thanks for that. I had asked my own optician but no joy there but he is a one man band. I may enquire at a larger Boots 2 miles away, it seems such a waste to get rid of them.

tanith I have just had a flash of brilliance. I am 100% certain that my vet's surgery saves them and it is not far from where you live. I have to go there tomorrow with Tara so I will find out.

Ok Charleygirl I'll be happy to pass them on to you..

If anyone feels so inclined, they can send used stamps to:

Cats Protection Horsham
P O Box 466
Horsham
West Sussex
RH12 1XN

The stamps are sold on and the funds raised go towards rescuing and rehoming cats.

We used to take our used stamps to the local Red Cross shop but they don't take them any more. However the Oxfam shop in the next town does. Anyone who does take them suggests that you should cut round them, leaving about 1cm all round.
