Are you concerned about a child’s talking, listening or understanding? Maybe you aren't sure if they are developing as they should and would like some information and tips on how you can help. Why not use the free I CAN Help Enquiry Service?

I CAN is the children’s communication charity. We are experts in helping children develop the speech, language and communication skills they need to thrive in a 21st century world.

If you are worried about a child and want more information you can get in touch with the I CAN Help Enquiry Service. Contact us on 020 7843 2544 to arrange a free call-back from one of our speech and language therapists or you can email your questions to [email protected]

Our therapists can provide information on milestones and typical communication development - including what can go wrong. They can also offer useful tips and activities, free resources and signposting to helpful organisations.

Visit www.ican.org.uk/help for more information.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Reported as I'm not sure this is the right place for this information. Perhaps should have gone through HQ.

Just had a look at the site and there is some very useful free information on it. Don't know whether or not they should have gone through HQ but they are not asking for donations just pointing to advice.

Hi everyone,

I would like to reassure you the above post is from I CAN, the children’s communication charity, a not for profit organisation. We are a charity that supports children, families and practitioners and our mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding.

Our Enquiry Service is a completely FREE service, with no strings attached. We have already helped thousands of parents, grandparents, childminders, teachers and SEN staff with a wide range of queries relating to children’s speech and language development but want to help even more. Our therapists provide information on milestones and typical communication development - including what can go wrong. They can also offer useful tips and activities, FREE resources and signposting to helpful organisations.

We also host a website www.talkingpoint.org.uk where you will find free activities, factsheets, videos and information about children's speech, language and communication. There is a progress checker for you to use to see how your child's or grandchild’s communication is developing and a postcode search of local speech and language provision.

If you are worried about a child and want more information please contact us on 020 7843 2544 or email [email protected]

If you’d like more information about how we fund our services please call 020 7843 2552 or email [email protected]

Thank you,

Arabella

Would be opening the door for all other charities to advertise in this way. Are we OK with this?

Hi Greenfinch - this is a Charities Noticeboard, so we do allow charities to post on here, as long as they stick to our forum guidelines.

OK .It's just that I haven't noticed any before and I log on every day confused. I will try to be more observant grin

If a child is seeing an NHS s.a.l.t. I'm sorry but I don't see the advantage of this service, besides which I entered my postcode twice and nothing came up in my area.
I'm open to persuasion though.

I would like to see more charities advertising like this. For example I CAN is offering a service that I, for one, was unaware of and there must be at least one Gransnetter who will give a little sigh of releief and contact them or advise someone else to contact them.

Many threads on Gransnet start with a cry for help from worried grandparents concerned about some aspects of a child's development or family, domestic or legal problem. In the past I received a lot of help and advise from a charity I was advised to contact by a friend.
