Tesco prices

I hate hate hate Tesco and will not shop there. Within five miles of my house there are five enormous Tesco Extra stores and another one planned, together with several Tesco Express shops. The one in my local town is built 100 yards from a large Asda store that has been there for years. The town centre has now completely died and the traffic is unbelievable. I know this happens with all major supermarkets but Tesco have such an aggressive development strategy and it seems that local councils give way for bribes; in this town it was a bit of fancy paving and a few trees.

Sorry that wasn't about Tesco prices but I see the word Tesco and I get a bit irrational!

nightowl I think lots of us do. I can't have been the only one to be pleased their last lot of results were not as good as they hoped.

nightowl. I know what you mean. That is awful. And then when we come to visit sweet little places, like in Suffolk, they've lost all the interesting little shops.

You could wear yourself out just walking from one end of our Tesco to the other. And where do they put the milk? Yep!

I'll stick to Waitrose. They price match these days.

There is no way at all I would give my money to Tesco,I did at one time shop at our local Superstore but found that any fresh veg or fruit had very little life left in them and where either wilting or going off the next day,even carrots that seemed to be nice and firm one day where black the next,their rotation system is awful,so I went back to the farmers markets that are not too far away,I have to travel a bit more but it saves money in the end and the produce tastes far better.

I prefer farmers markets, but use waitrose as they deliver and I can't carry with my crutches.

Another "mad woman" - I will not shop in Tesco.

Tesco arrived and the High Street in our town died. Just cafes, resturants, yummy mummy expensive kids clothes, charity shops and empty retain units.

I live near a lovely market town which still has independent shops who have always been able to supply what I need and a wonderful weekly market. Thus far they have managed to keep Tesco out and long may that last.

Since they extended our nearest Tesco by putting in a mezzanine, I find the atmosphere rather threatening and I'm not easily intimidated. However, I have Waitrose in easy walking distance and Morrisons not far off.

So glad I'm not the only one who boycotts Tesco. We have a lovely Waitrose in our nearest town with a Lidl right next door - very good combination.

I'm consumed with guilt because I needed a CD plus clock for when GD comes to stay and trawled about online trying to find one under £50. By far the cheapest (under £20) was tesco online, so I succumbed and ordered. And then found I couldn't get through their online ordering process without filling out an application for a clubcard. Talk about aggressive marketing!! Nothing would ever induce me to use a clubcard.

I'm another "mad woman" who hates Tesco.I won't go there unless I am desperate, and as I have to drink "odd" milks,(rice,coconut and almond) I go to Waitrose. Living alone means I don't buy loads of food so the extra pennies it may cost don't add up to much.

I must admit that, although I much prefer Asda, I do occasionally shop at Tesco online, at hubby`s request, so that he can have the money off petrol coupons that they give out now and again.

I am a supermarket cruiser, who flits from one to the other to snap up whatever bargains they have. I do an online shop every couple of weeks, though. This week, having received a tempting Ocado voucher I stocked up and my £87 shop cost me £55, including delivery. It was cheaper than all the big supemarkets, but I only shop Waitrose and Ocado if they email me a voucher.

I won't shop at Tesco, I live round the corner from Waitrose, so I go there. Occasionally I will go to Sainsbury's, but to be honest a lot of people don't have any choice of where they shop. My daughter is on her own with two children and has to go where she can get bargains and special offers, she would love to shop at Farmer's Markets but can't afford it.

I won't shop in Tesco either but I can afford to shop in Waitrose, I couldn't have done when I had a large family to feed.
I don't buy luxury foods (Waitrose is full of them) and I buy all fruit and veg, cheese, butter and eggs from our twice-weekly market.

Like Carol, am a bit of a supermarket cruiser, though am mostly loyal to Asda. As I'm a sucker for a freebie, I ventured into Tesco today to use their (£5 off next £40 shop - Asda did it in Nov/Dec and I saved loadsamoney!) There was slight confusion at the till as we (and the cashier) thought we had spent £60 which was the qualifying amount for petrol voucher, but after various savings, the total was under £60. To cut a long story short, customer services were extremely obliging, and we went away with a 10p off a litre voucher aswell as £5 off £40. Obviously the latter means you have to go back the following week to use it, but as it's a short-lived offer, I'm sure we'll be back to Asda before too long!

Yes, I`ll also be online shopping at Tesco again next week, in order to use the £5 off voucher that I`ve earned from this week`s shop, but when all the offers are over, I`ll be back at Asda. I`ve never even seen a Waitrose, we have Asda, Tesco and Aldi here.

Did some online shopping with Tesco a little while ago and one of the items that was substituted was a bottle of wine ( price about £5) for a bottle of champagne . I don't like champagne but still drank it anyway !

I live in the middle of nowhere, OH is not well, transport is virtually non-existent. We have a car but use it as little as possible as petrol prices crazy.

So....nearly always get my shopping through Tesco online. It is cheaper, the goods are always fresh, the drivers can find our house, I get discounts, the website is user-friendly etc. etc.

I have tried online shopping with Waitrose (much more expensive) and Sainsburys (OK - has a good website, but seems to have trouble finding our house!) ), but I have come down on the side of Tescos in the end as the all-round package is good.

Big supermarkets do have a detrimental effect on town centre traders - there is no doubt about that - but this applies to Morrisons, Asda and the whole lot of them. It is difficult in our circumstances to go down the morally consistent route of boycotting all supermarkets. We do use our local farmers' market (once a month!) and our local garage/shop for some fresh veg - but very limited choice (carrots/potatoes/cabbage - that's your lot!) and very expensive.

The Tescos nearest to us is in the middle of a huge estate where many families on benefit and who do not have cars live - it has been a lifeline for them - quality cheap food within walking distance and no taxi fares to get to town. The moral high ground is out of reach for many - they are just glad to feed their families.

I hate Tesco too with a passion, we generally supermarket surf inc Lidl Aldi Asda Morrisons Sainsbury's, but they opened a new Waitrose near to us on Thursday, so we are off to see what it's like!

If it was down to us, the big supermarkets would make no money because we now have the time to strategic-buy offers. Mind you we are not as fanatical about it as the woman on the telly before Christmas who seemed to spend 2/11d and get a weeks worth of shopping by being forensic with vouchers and money off bargains. She even complained about some items to the producers and got vouchers for her trouble, when she did not even really dislike the product which was disingenuous somewhat.

I don't have much choice here. Tesco or nothing Have no idea where my nearest Waitrose is, Asda n Sainsburys are both 12+ miles away. So any savings are lost in petrol.

Yes, I have shopped on line, but I'm one of those realy odd people who quiet likes to go food shopping

I don't see what Tesco's rationale is any more - for cheaper you can have Asda, Morrisons, Aldi, Lidl etc, for breadth of choice, Sainsbury's and for quality, Waitrose. For the environmentally aware, the Co-op does a great job and for internet shopping Ocado is the most reliable and gives you the narrowest time slot. So all Tesco can offer is size - that alone puts me off.
