How about a 'suggestions' thread for gifts?

That's a really good idea, Carol. It would be really helpful to have suggestions for presents, especially if you've given something and it's been happily received. If someone has given us a gift which we were glad to have we could mention that too.

One of the best presents that I have received over the years is one bought for me by DS2 this last Christmas he knows of my love for cookery books old and new and bought me a copy of The Half Hour Cook by Jenni Fleetwood it really does keep true to the title and has some amazing recipies in that are very professional looking,the illustrations are fabulous and realistic,I think anyone would love to have this book in their kitchen,it suits use as when we have been out anywhere for the day we are not tempted to snack when we get home knowing I can put someting nice and tasty to-gether.

This is such a good idea Carol. I know that you and other grans were very helpful to me a while ago when I asked for suggestions for a friend's 60th birthday present. In the end I bought her an aromatherapy lamp to burn essential oils because on reflection I realised that she was quite a tense person but that she enjoyed yoga and I thought this would complement her yoga sessions.

Carol suggested a Sussex trug and kindly sent me the link (I have ordered one for another friend who loves gardening, as well as one for myself). I have written down all the other wonderful ideas and will be using them for other friends and relatives who I know they will suit, depending on their tastes. There was such a wide variety of suggestions that I know gransnetters have an almost unlimited supply of ideas.

A hammock! Get a nice soft fabric one i.e. not one like a string bag. Your giftee will bless you every summer afternoon. There's a good website - google 'hammock' and you'll find it.

I trecked around the Trafford Centre yesterday, looking for inspiration for my 12 year old grandson's birthday today, and found one great present in the Model Shop - must go back there, there's lots of interesting things. He's got an iPod Touch and they had an AppCopter, which is a small helicopter that can be flown by using the iPod as the remote control (there's software to download). The shop assistant asvised caution - the person demonstrating it to shoppers a few weeks ago got it to take flight and it went straight over the balcony and landed in someone's coffee in the cafe below! My grandson will love that! I can envisage him manoevring it over the dining table - typical schoolboy!
