Well, HQ are campaigning for Gransnet members to take over the postal service to combat the rising cost of stamps. Good idea!

Will we have a special uniform? Can we have Radley inspired postal sacks?
Are there enough Grandads in the shed to repair our cycles? Do we really have to go out delivering in the rain? Shall we set the date for our Posties Christmas Party now?

Answers on a postcard please. grin

There does appear to be a grown up woman in charge of R. Mail. Nice to see. Not home grown though sad.

Definitely need a special uniform. I'm not so good on foot but I can knock up a few mail bags for the rest of you girls. It's very hilly here in North Devon so the exercise will be an added bonus, especially if gransnetters push buggies on their delivery routes at the same time. grin

I like your idea of taking the buggies Libradi. If there's a house with a long front drive, we can send our grandchildren toddling off to post the letter whilst we have a breather at the gate.

Electric scooters with Royal Mail logo would suit me very nicely. And a pocketful of doggie treats would be necessary.

Annobel ...I was just thinking that I could use Hubby's Scooter.....it is a long way between Farms and Cottages in my area and the knees aren't too clever for walking miles to deliver to about a dozen addresses.
Might need to stop for a cuppa and a battery re-charge every couple of hundred yards !!!!
I will need a Cath Kidston Messenger bag to go across the body. Have a basket on the front for small parcels.....mind, a wicker one would look better.
I'll also need some Joules wellies for muddy farm paths.
When do we start ?? grin

I said to DH "what a brilliant idea", it was only the knitted mailbags that gave it away.

We'll need lovely big-brimmed hats for sunny days. Can we stay at home if it rains?

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 11:46:31

I've just got my GN prize of walking trainers so I can use those for the long haul deliveries and get myself a pair of sylth like legs in the process,do we have to wear hats,I don't look good in hats I would like a nice uniform though grin

Tosh Sun 01-Apr-12 12:06:37

Always too windy here for hats ...Trapper hats for very cold days !!!!

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 12:11:53

Can't do trapper hats Tosh it would mess my hair up something awful !!!

In yesterday's Telegraph there was a letter from a reader along thse lines:
"Given the granny tax, VAT on hot pies, advice on jerry cans and George Galloway winning in Bradford, how will we recognise an April Fool story?"

DH thought that possibly anything that had a smidgeon of common sense about it? grin

yogagran Sun 01-Apr-12 13:26:03

Do we have to wear shorts?

nanapug Sun 01-Apr-12 14:03:34

We could have a competition to design our uniform but please don't ask the McCartney woman to be involved!!

Anagram Sun 01-Apr-12 14:35:50

I have not worn shorts for 50 years and am not going to start now!
(Unless we can wear tights under them...grin)

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 16:46:42

Anagram We could wear hot pants with tights underneath, but I bet you that my tights would fall down and I would resemble Nora Battey sad

Anagram Sun 01-Apr-12 16:48:35

Not if your hot pants were tight enough, glammanana! wink

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 17:03:26

Never thought of that !!! Anagram or I could keep them up with elastic garters.

jeni Sun 01-Apr-12 17:25:57

With tassels on!

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 17:40:14

jeni how about bells ? I remember having green knicker elastic to go around the top of my winter uniform socks to keep them up,that all went by the by when i moved to the senior school and realized we had boys in our class then ? grin

jeni Sun 01-Apr-12 17:44:25

Morris's dancers have bells don't they? Can you imagine us all performing capers in our shorts and clashing sticks!smile

glammanana Sun 01-Apr-12 17:49:20
