for son, a pint glass which says on the front, "it's what's inside that counts".

It's just occurred to me that it could be vaguely insulting! Sort of, "the outside of you is not much to look at but...."! (He is fairly presentable usually)

Should I take it back? confused

Yes, I think you should, jingl. It does sound like that, doesn't it...?

jeni Mon 17-Dec-12 13:11:13

Fill it with whisky or whatever liquor he likes!

I've got him some bottles of ale to go with it.

I can always explain.

Better do it straight away, before he's traumatised, jingl? grin

jO5 Mon 17-Dec-12 13:27:07

grin Righto

kittylester Mon 17-Dec-12 13:50:29

You're overthinking it, jingl. he must be used to you by now! After all, he presumably knows what you bought his sister last year. grin

Oh yes! Of course!

I won't worry any more. smile

My DSx2 would love that jo5 and it got me thinking: What would men really like for Christmas? About 5 years ago I bought 2 cheap, remote controlled cars from Lidl (as a joke).Surprise, surprise, out they come every year for the two 'boys' to play withsmile

glassortwo Mon 17-Dec-12 15:08:18

jingle I like the alternative presents you send, next year I think I will send my list to you for some perfect alternatives grin

jO5 Mon 17-Dec-12 15:12:52

Righto grin

I think it depends on your relationship with your son. Mine would have no problem but my DiL would hate it.

glammanana Mon 17-Dec-12 17:12:00

jingle my DS1 would find it very funny but the younger one would analize it and think allsorts, when it was DS1s birthday Saturday gone I bought him a card of plastic mustashes from Next, all different shapes he has been trying to grow a tash all year with not much success he found the prezzie very funny, his future MIL bought him a spiderman onesie and he was delighted younger son would have thrown it in disgust so they are all different,I bet he will love it as he knows your sence of humour well I should think after all these yrs.grin

jO5 Mon 17-Dec-12 17:22:30

Yep! I reckon you're right Glamma.

Movedalot did you mean to say DiL? I wouldn't dare give it to a daughter-in-law! grin (not that I've got one hmm).

Movedalot Mon 17-Dec-12 17:30:08

Yes, j05 I have to tread on eggshells as she doesn't seem to have a sense of humour!

I replace everything DH has lost during the year(at least only the things he mourns) I have been told we never lose things by accident but he is just absentminded.

gracesmum Mon 17-Dec-12 18:41:46

No, just make sure there is plenty to go in the inside. I don't think sons are that quick to see offence, especially where none intended.

My DS often buys quirky presents.
One last Xmas was 'Goodbye Cruel World ...a book of memorable epitaphs'
I was somewhat concerned ..but he's survived this very unhappy year, has a new job and a new girl-friend!! The book in fact is quite amusing and thought- provoking.
