I have warmed to him more and more since he started being on the panel of The Wright Stuff. He almost always puts forward my own views on politics, religion or other ethical issues. Does anybody else like him?

I can't stand him, but that's because of his strange mannerisms and affected speech - he's a posh boy who taught himself to speak 'Manc.' I agree with his views. I learned on yesterday's Wright Stuff that he lectures on the Manchester-based degree course that my son took a few years ago, and told my son about it. 'Good job he wasn't lecturing when I was there' he said, 'I would have dropped out!' grin

Was he on a Big Brother type thing recently as well? I know it was a real blast from the past [I'd all but forgotten about him since he presented music programmes years ago]. Either way he was on something and I warmed to him as well [something that surprised me as I didn't like him much way back]. I'll try to catch him on The Wright Stuff; I used to love that programme when I was able to watch it.

Brought up in Old Trafford with six brothers and sisters, his father a Shop Steward, passed the 11 plus and was educated at a Grammar School - in what way is he a posh boy, when? confused

Ana He was frequently seen on TV as a boy, speaking on children's programmes about experiences he was enjoying as quite a privileged young person, who spoke like a public schoolboy. In his late teens, he ditched the received pronunciation and started to align himself with the Socialist Worker Party, then moved away from his studies and into TV. A well known local boy who attended St Bedes College and had rather a lofty view of himself till TV lured him over.

Strangely enough I was going through some old videos last night and dig out a Glastonbury 1994 [boy did I feel old] and Katy Puckrick was on it so it made me think about that era. I have a friend who looks just like Terry Christian; he was someone that you never looked twice at as a young bloke but doesn't look any diferent today and is rather attractive for his age. There's a lot of men like that I find.

Oh, I see, when. His online biographies don't mention any TV programme appearances as a boy. He would have attended St Bedes under the grammar school system in those days, of course.

crimson, yes he won Celebrity Big Brother in 2009 - he came over as a good bloke, from what I saw of it!

crimson Wed 16-Jan-13 12:10:39

2009? Blimey; where does the time go?

Greatnan Wed 16-Jan-13 13:02:00

Perhaps the posh voice was put on and he reverted to his natural accent?

BAnanas Wed 16-Jan-13 13:11:40

I like Terry Christian he's very amusing and often in a tongue in cheek way. I often agree with what he has to say, but not always. I do think he looks a bit like The Joker as played by Jack Nicholson in one of the Batman films, don't know whether he would think that was a good or a bad thing!

whenim64 Wed 16-Jan-13 13:26:23

What? With that exagerated nasal twang, Greatnan? grin He's been ridiculed many times over the years, for lapsing into the correct speech he used to use, and forgetting he talks like Liam Gallagher now. It's a shame that the Manchester accent has been so distorted ino something quite horrible because of people like him, as it never was as extreme as the way he uses it. Oh well....smile

I have to admit that I don't like his voice, but I still like his views!

whenim64 Wed 16-Jan-13 14:21:09

I'm with you there Greatnan smile

Wonder if he upset any Yorkshire folk this morning? He said that a Yorkshireman is just a Lancashireman with all the generosity squeezed out! I must admit to quite liking him, but wish he had a different voice.

We Lancastrians have a long running but very light hearted feud with Tykes - I am sure nobody would take offence!
