I was over in our noew local Waitbury's (complaining, as it happens about blades of grass in last night spinach!) so after doing my grumpy old woman act I went for a free coffee with my "My Waitbury" card and a custard slice and sat down beside a lady in a rather natty red hat. Then I realised that the woman beside her was wearing a red fascinator as was the woman who came to sit down opposite. Feeling this might be a private occasion, I asked and found that they all (there were 2 more fairly quickly) belonged to the local "Red Hat" chapter which seems to exist for women over 50 to meet for coffee or whatever, go to theatres/concerts/events together and generally have a nice time in company! I thought, and said that it sounded not unlike Gransnet and I wonder, are any of you Red Hatters out there? They were absolutely lovely, friendly chatty and welcoming (just like Gransnet) and I thoroughly enjoyed my coffee stop!
To think that London, or anywhere else for that matter, does not belong to any one demographic
