How does a proper grandad behave.

I met a lady from aerobics today and she was astonished I had my daughter and 2 of my granddaughters with me.
She said I don't give people the impression I am a granddad and she was even more surprised when I said I had 4 granddaughters.
I have to admit I am not going in to old age gracefully and I do not smoke a pipe or anything like that.
What is a typical granddad with 2 daughters and granddaughters like?.
Oh I don't have a shed.

Frank

You're not old enough yet for the carpet slippers and walking-stick, Frank. You're just like many other 60+ granddads out there - perhaps the lady was paying you a compliment...?

Do try not to get stressed by every passing comment people make - they're probably just making conversation.

Frank, It was a compliment. She didn't think you looked old enough to be a grandfather.

I was told the other day by my GCs that I wasn't a typical grandmother. I had a 10 metre length of slippery parachute fabric spread down my steep garden and enjoyed taking my turn to slide down. I often forget how old I am (67), but remembered when my knees ached after hitting the memory foam padded wall at the bottom a few times!
Frank, I like the way you talk about your family and dog, you obviously love them dearly and are a big softy with them. It doesn't match the other side of you that we also hear!

Did you forget you have a shed? You were telling about the mis-matched strips of wood, and going to Cuprinol it. Perhaps you meant that you do not have a shed where you spend time tinkering . smile

My 67 year old husband is leaping around the garden playing tennis with our 13 year old granddaughter as I type smile

My DH has had his hair spiked up and has lipstick all round his mouth administered by our 6 year old granddaughter. I hope nobody comes to the door! He is now on his hands and knees giving "pony rides". I'm keeping out of it !

mr.glamma wishes he had hair to spike up gorki but he has a real good time with the DGCs, now on full adult conversations with the big ones and always acting the fool with the two little ones including doing running repairs to aeroplanes/scooters/bicycles and doing the football training run.Its a state of mind I think that these DGCs have you programmed to and there is no escaping.grin

Last week was DGC 3rd birthday. His presents included a new football. Soon all the adults, including both GP, both 70 this year, were having a good kick about. At a certain point GF appointed himself goal keeper so that he could lean against the tree that formed the goal because health problems were slowing him down.

As he says age and treachery will beat youth and experience any day.

gorki grin Good for him. I am impressed.

He isn't a young granddad either Nelliemoser. He is 74 and has COPD but he does not let it stop him.

I for one do not think we should go into old age gracefully.

I think we should raise hell , devil take the hindmost !!

What is that poem about "disgraceful" old age which begins "I shall wear purple " or something like that ? It's good fun. grin

I don"t know , but someone will , I look fortward to hearing it.

Ana Sun 07-Jul-13 21:41:09

Ana Sun 07-Jul-13 21:41:43

Nonu Sun 07-Jul-13 21:43:44
