Did anyone else watch the finale of this programme? I am used to watching thrillers etc. but for some reason I found this REALLY scary!! My heart was going like the proverbial clappers by the end!! Is it just me?

I thought it was a great drama and, for once, I wasn't perplexed or disappointed by the surprise ending.

The underlying theme of fear of being alone was very effectively dramatised.

It has got to be the best drama I have seen for a long time,it kept you glued to your chair right up to the last minute with all the dramatic twists and turns.

It was great wasn't it? I thought it was very like a Ruth Rendell novel, with a surfeit of unsavoury characters, any of whom might have 'dunnit' and a bum-clenchingly scary ending, where you thought the innocent victim would undoubtedly be slain.

Make-up did a good job on Len at the end didn't they? I'm glad he wasn't alone

Best TV I've seen for ages. I was so afraid the ending would be inconclusive and we would all be left to make up our own. Remember the end of Series 1 of Ashes to Ashes? What a disappointment

Yes, I loved it! Poor Len - although how he managed to fetch his crossbow and actually use it is beyond me...

Certainly the best ending to a tv drama for a very long time, and brilliant acting.

I am sorry but I found the ending all too predictable in terms of over dramatic stabbing sequences. It just ended in a person chase rather than a car chase.

It seemed to me like the old "Hammer Horror" sequence of the heroine wandering Dracula's castle in a thunderstorm with a guttering candle for light and the villain you thought was dead coming back onto their feet for another go at the hero.

I like the endings where you still don't quite know if the supposed villain has got away with it or not. Its much scarier.

Brilliant. And perhaps, if the greedy pigs at the BBC took their snouts out of the trough, we could have more of it instead of reality rubbish and reruns.
I say this because I read some time ago that they didn't have the money to do the big productions anymore.
What a joke and an insult after what we have leant recently.

Terrific series, with a cast of understated, good actors rather than slebs. Will really miss it. Oh for more like this. I've just bought the box set of all three series of The Street, just for something interesting, well-written and well-acted to watch.

I'm with nellie It was tense, specially the baby in the attic bit but I thought there was too much slaughter to be anyway realistic! Glad the bow and arrow came into its own in the end!

The likelihood of three murderers living in one house is an outside chance!

It would have been spookier for me if Len accepted Joe's confession that he had killed Melissa, we had seen Peggy dead in the ice bath and Elaine pretended she had just left and then started to come on to Vidya or Liz!

It had its nailbiting moments though!

Ana Mon 16-Sep-13 19:16:50

Three murderers? Liz killed her stepfather and Elaine killed Melissa and Len (we don't know how Peggy died - was it suicide?). Who was the other killer?

Maggiemaybe Mon 16-Sep-13 19:41:00

I really enjoyed this series. I'd just persuaded my rather nervous colleague that she would be fine watching it as it was not really scary or graphic, more of an old-fashioned whodunnit. Then along came the last episode and made me jump out of my skin. I'd love more like this! Of course it wasn't at all believable or true to life, but that's not always what I want from a drama.

Penstemmon Mon 16-Sep-13 20:40:45

Peggy strangled Melissa to try to stop her telling Elaine about her leaving! Liz killed her stepfather and Elaine killed Len!

Ana Mon 16-Sep-13 21:05:27

Yes, you're right! Don't know how I forgot that, but I did. Apologies...blush

Grannyknot Mon 16-Sep-13 21:08:29

Maybe Len survived? Did we actually see him snuff it? (I was watching through my fingers at that stage).

I hated Elaine. She'd have had no chance in domineering me like that, I'd have shoved her out of the way and sashayed right out of that house of horror.

Penstemmon Tue 17-Sep-13 20:33:19

No we did not see Len die but he did say to Vidya 'I don't want to be alone' sad

Ana Tue 17-Sep-13 20:35:58

Yes, I think we can safely assume he died...and then the light went out.

I used to live in a flat in a house like that - those lights on timers were a nightmare!

Grannyeggs Tue 17-Sep-13 21:15:21

I agree, the scariest ending ever. I couldn't get to sleep after it. But I thought it was very good.

Penstemmon Wed 18-Sep-13 22:32:16

Gosh Ana I hope the similarity ended with the timed switches and not your fellow residents!

Ana Wed 18-Sep-13 22:33:23

You'll never know, Penstemmon...wink
