Just looking for Christmas presents and stumbled upon www.gloucestershireecho.co.uk/Entertainer-20-toys-Christmas-2013/story-19934269-detail/story.html

Who decides which toys make the cut? Do you reckon they just list all the new expensive toys in hope people buy because they've seen it's been 'recommended'?

Opps - not sure why that doesn't click through...

I like good solid wooden toys - and the 'old fashioned' games. I leave the plastic to others. That said I've bought some very good imaginative plastic building type toys, including lego of course. I loathe the TV adverts. The goods are always a disappointment in reality. Bring back the old days with tin and string grin

The amount of discarded plastic cluttering up toy boxes in my family's houses takes my breath away. The favourites have always been the wooden railway and trains, construction sets and playmobile. Things that play a tune (tunelessly) are to be avoided at all costs - and they do cost!

I hate the TV adverts too goldengirl the toys are always made out to be so much better than they really are and children are often disappointed with them. I aree you can't beat Playmobil and Lego.

I may have said this on here before but Orchard Games do wonderful games, many of which can be played by three year olds up to adult with everyone having fun. We managed to lose the dice which had colours on each face and I contacted them. They sent me a couple right away with a lovely note saying they were glad I liked their games and to get in touch if I needed anything else. What service! I was very impressed with them. Dotty Dinosaurs and Tummyache are particular favourites.

Dotty Dinosaurs was a hit with our grand children too. We have introduced them to various versions of Scrabble but I am tending to buy books for presents these days.
