Whycan't a man be more like a woman?

I was having a moan yesterday - entirely justified, I hasten to add - about DH and a wise friend commented "Why can't a man be more like a woman?" do you remember the similar song from My Fair Lady sung (?) by Rex Harrison?
It got me thinking.........

Why can't a man be more like a girl?
Women are better at coping with stress
A small bar of chocolate, or maybe a dress
But a man with a gripe just moans without stopping
While the women that I know, ....they simply go shopping.
A man's got a headache - just hear how he groans
A woman feels down, she picks up the phone
And rings up a girl friend to chat on for hours
There's no point in hoping that he'll bring her flowers.
While some men have good points and others have uses
Like dealing with spiders, carrying luggage on cruises.
Some know about parking and some about maps
But for most of the rest of the stuff we have APPS
We can all multitask and we don't make a fuss
Oh why can't our menfolk
Be more like US?
grin

On the whole I like men. I think they have a raw deal these days.

Elegran Sun 03-Aug-14 14:34:48

So do I.

Many of my friends when they are having a gripe say ' I'm coming back as a man' I always reply' I wouldn't lower myself' I have got use to mine he comes in handy now and again. Oh and my children and grandchildren adore him. Best keep him then!

That reminds me of:

“Women who seek to be equal with men lack ambition.”

My DH is more like US, in housekeeping anyway. I think men generally get a bad rap. Maybe the issue is generational? I am fortunate that my DH was one of two sons reared by an exacting domestic MIL and so he is tidy, cleans, decorates, and taught me to do a 'nice' laundry (MIL words) grin DS is the same. My DD is making progress re-training DSIL. Good luck there.

DH has done all the housekeeping (and to my standards!) the past year because of my severe lower back problems. Plus gardening a 2 acre plot on his own. He brings out seating for me so I can comfortably enjoy chatting with him as he weeds. He refuses to cook (except grill) LOL. Oh, he has a full time job plus 45 minute one-way commute. I am enormously grateful for everything he does.

PS I have built fences, block walls, brick pathways; installed insulation, put up and caulked siding; shoveled out for a jacuzzi, designed landscapes, and ran the concrete mixer for years. Maybe that's the cause of my back troubles? So, I am not a princess in case it seemed like that!

Genes or environment? Both?

I have complained, moaned, nagged, disagreed with him, for 47 years (not all the time of course but you know what I mean). Now he is poorly and I really really want to keep him just the way he is.

Terrafirma1 Sun 03-Aug-14 19:27:16

Am I at risk from Terrafirma1? Sounds a lot more fun than the Commonwealth Games closing ceremony!

Terrafirma1 Sun 03-Aug-14 21:52:04

Moi? [<3<3]

Iam64 Mon 04-Aug-14 08:29:17

No, a builders brew is what we drink int'north, all the time grin

whenim64 Mon 04-Aug-14 09:26:34

Some of us int'north like it weak as dishwater. Show the teabag to the cup of freshly boiled water and hoik it away quickly before the tannin gets chance to see the cup! grin

KatyK Mon 04-Aug-14 10:06:08

Apologies for my depressing post. grin

Mariclaire please tell me what a caulked siding is?

MariClaire Mon 04-Aug-14 16:26:27

stansgran I used caulk as a verb there. What I meant was after we screwed in the house siding planks over the studs and insulation, I filled all the spaces between each linear board with caulking material (silicone). Went through cases of it when we remodeled our newish 60 year old rambling ranch house.
