I have just purchased a new Dyson Animal vacuum cleaner so I rushed home to hoover my lounge, and then got so excited about the amount of crap that was in the cylinder after just one go. What an exciting life I lead!!!

Don't worry nanapug, it wears off fairly quickly! grin

I was the same when I first bought a bagless vacuum cleaner - now I just find it annoying when I have to empty it! grin

nanapug Tue 09-Sep-14 15:19:35

Ha ha, Lona I think it has worn off all ready ;)

HildaW Tue 09-Sep-14 17:04:17

Not sad.....deeply satisfying no doubt!

Lindylooby Tue 09-Sep-14 17:11:19

Haha, I too have a Dyson Animal but just can't understand how my darling beagle has any coat left as by the looks of the cylinder there is a full dogs worth each couple of days!

I was the same when my Roomba first arrived. I sent it off to vacuum all the downstairs, let it recharge then took it upstairs to do the bedrooms and landing.
Then I tried programming it to start automatically - I thought I had better set it for next morning so that I was there to make sure it did as it was told.
The day after that a friend dropped in - she got a demonstration of it (confined to the hall this time) and the day after that son and DiL were in, so they had another demonstration.

My carpets have never been so clean. Interestingly, the (too small) dust box was full of carpet fluff and dust for the first and second passes, but the two subsequent ones hardly produced any. It says something about how thoroughly I had not been cleaning them previously.

I have a Bissell plus Pets vacuum cleaner (also bagless). It also seems full of Parson Russell dog hair. My lovely little dog is 15 now and her hair is thinning, .I keep threatening to spin enough of her hair to crochet a jacket to keep her warm. My DH likes the Bissell particularly the turbo brush attachment. (Gadget Man).

A new Dyson, I've been dreaming of one, but instead gave mine a good clean. All carpets now clean.

I bought a rechargeable handheld one and keep whizzing round with it every day.

My Roomba doesn't like carpets, only hard floors.

Elegran Tue 09-Sep-14 21:06:28

Mine is happy with carpets. It is very good at edges and under things.

My new vacuum cleaner arrived today. It's a robot, but not a Roomba, it a Neato. Never heard of it, but it has good reviews. I shall charge it up tomorrow, I'm too tired to read the instructions now, but I am so excited! It arrived early and I guessed what it was, so DBH has let me have it early as it was meant to be my birthday present.

Finding a spare space along a wall for the docking station is going to be the hardest part.

Elegran Tue 09-Sep-14 21:12:49

I have realised that it can't sweep the bit behind the docking station! I have tucked it away under a bookcase, so that bit is out of view.

I was similarly excited when I got a new steam cleaner this summer. I keep steaming everything, isn't it satisfying? I think it is because I am not long retired and have never had time for this sort of 'proper' housework.

I don't think that's sad. I get lots of pleasure from "little" things that make my life easier or more fun.

janerowena Thu 11-Sep-14 13:15:18

My poor little robot must be worn out. grin I think it's the best present I have ever had. It's only been in action for two days, yet it has cleaned the whole house three times. grin

It's a bit galling, though, to see that it cleans better than I do. I never thought I could ever be embarrassed by a robot, but when it spent a good five minute under the tv unit and finally emerged waving a couple of sets of cobwebs, I did feel a bit chastened!

Yes, I love my steam cleaner too. It's wonderful on curtains, nasty spots on the carpet, the tiled kitchen floor - even the oven!

If I could find something that would change the beds for me, I would be very happy indeed.

Well I have just hoovered again today and can not believe how much crap I am still getting up (it's the blessed dogs fault!!). I am also taking great pleasure in emptying the cylinder out each time to see what I am getting. It is incredible. I have never hoovered (or should I say dysoned) as much in all my life. Ha ha, have just realised that that could be the problem ;)

GillT57 Thu 11-Sep-14 15:30:37

I bought one a few weeks ago ( cordless animal Dyson) and love it. We have a mix of wooden, tiles and carpets and it glides from one to the other without a hiccup. It is humiliating just how much dog and cat hair there was in my very small areas of carpet.

janerowena Thu 11-Sep-14 20:59:37

One day, I would love one of those JUST for doing the stairs. I have a fairly new vax, but it's heavy and getting it up and down the stairs was too much with dodgy hips, so it lives under the stairs and I can still use it because it has a very long hose. However, it does take up a lot of space. I can't see me being able to justify the expense to DBH, though.

jinglbellsfrocks Thu 11-Sep-14 21:44:02

Dyson are bringing out a robot one soon

It's only going to be about 1,000 US dollars. grin (think that's about £600)

rosequartz Thu 11-Sep-14 22:53:49

janer I have just bought a Dyson rechargeable vacuum and it is great for doing the stairs.
How did I manage without it?

janerowena Thu 11-Sep-14 22:57:18

Maybe I'll just have to hobble a bit harder in front of DBH. grin
