Oliver Sprout is in the kitchen with a a magpie.

Gransnet helps ease me into the day.

Our cat brought in a dead mole the other day. Embarassingly I spent half the day walking round it as I thought it was a small piece of black carpet that had escaped from somewhere blush

Iam64 Tue 01-Sep-15 08:09:32

It's what I do after I've checked email, Facebook and read the headlines with my morning cup of tea. I'll be out walking those dogs within about half an hour.

ninathenana Tue 01-Sep-15 08:20:18

Oh dear phoenix I'm assuming it's still alive ?
Bad sprout ! DH is full of admiration.grin "Not many cats could catch a magpie"

kittylester Tue 01-Sep-15 08:20:48

I pootle and faff every morning wrapped in a towel!

Yours is the best excuse Phoenix. I would have to stay out of the kitchen until DH. came home - you could get very hungry and thirsty! grin

Anne58 Tue 01-Sep-15 08:26:44

Indeed kitty, I would be stuck here until Friday afternoon!

The situation with Oliver Sprout and the magpie has turned into "An Incident". shock

I may post about it later after work, when (hopefully) I might know how it all turned out.

glammanana Tue 01-Sep-15 08:30:17

I like to spend an hour browsing and topping up my tea-cup before venturing to the shower and going off to work.
Phoenix I would not be going near a bird in my kitchen dead or alive I have a mortal fear of anything that has feathers.grin

ginny Tue 01-Sep-15 08:42:32

It's what I do too whilst having breakfast and putting off any jobs that I don't want to do !

hildajenniJ Tue 01-Sep-15 08:44:15

Oh come on girls, it's just a bird! If I were near you phoenix, I'd be round in a flash to get rid of it for you.
I usually pick up my tablet with my cup of tea and second breakfast. (First breakfast consumed at 03.30). I add my daily weather report and then see what everyone is up to. I check in on fb, and then check my emails. All this takes a leisurely hour, so that I can unwind again after work, and the drive home.

Teetime Tue 01-Sep-15 09:02:54

I usally spend an hour in my 'study' doing home admin, answering e-mails, household accounts and general internet surfing/shopping after breakfast each day and sometimes a bit later on if all my jobs/golf/gym is done.

janeainsworth Tue 01-Sep-15 09:16:02

I am on GN because we are on our way home from DD's.
At least we were, we are now on our way back to DD's as MrA remembered 20 minutes after we had departed, that he had left his jacket and wallet hanging up in DD's hall cupboard.
And that was after cross-questioning me as we left, as to whether I had remembered all my belongings <rolls eyes>

jane grin

Lona Tue 01-Sep-15 09:31:26

Jane grin What he really meant was, "Have you got all my stuff?"

whenim64 Tue 01-Sep-15 09:43:55

It takes at least an hour and several cups of tea to unstiffen and start to feel human in the morning, so it's iPad, make tea, feed dog and let her wander down the garden, then I check emails, Facebook, several online news sites, pay any bills online and Gransnet before taking the dog for her walk. Those mornings when I have to rush about are thankfully few and far between.

Lona Tue 01-Sep-15 09:48:39

It's comforting to know that we're all doing the same sort of thing in the morning. Sometimes I have to remind myself that I'm retired!

jinglbellsfrocks Tue 01-Sep-15 09:49:03

shock OMG phoenix!!! Is it dead?!!!

What will you do??? Have you gone to work? Have you left the kitchen door open or shut?

You poor thing. You are living a nightmare. sad

posie Tue 01-Sep-15 09:53:42

Computer on, then breakfast & couple of cups of coffee while I see what's going on in the world.

kittylester Tue 01-Sep-15 09:58:32

I, too, hate feathered things and small, grey, squeaky things with tails. The other day Kiwi brought in a bird of some description while we were still in bed having a cup of tea. I don't know which was worse, having to leap out of bed and leave the room or having to change the bed when it wasn't a bed changing day! shock

I really hate days when I have to rush and I've just checked my diary to discover that I have two such days next week.

Gagagran Tue 01-Sep-15 10:11:15

Speaking of feathered things, DH once spent a very long time removing the gas fire in our then sitting room as he could hear a bird flapping behind it. Took him ages but he did it eventually and rescued the soot-covered blackbird from the gap and took it out into our garden. He let it go and it flew into the hedge whereupon a cat laid underneath, sunbathing, leapt up and caught the bird and it became an ex-blackbird. All his effort was in vain. The bird was doomed!

Greyduster Tue 01-Sep-15 10:18:01

I am checking in, having a browse and girding my loins before we take GS to the football field for a kick about! When he is here I have to fight both him and Grandad for the iPad in the mornings.

Indinana Tue 01-Sep-15 10:48:36

I am here for the same reason as usual: I am prevaricating.

Phoenix whatever did you do about the magpie? shock. I would definitely be staying out of the kitchen.... but wait.... was it still alive??? If it was, I'd probably have to conquer my fears and go in and try to do something.
Now this is why I'm not a 'cat person'!!!!! Dogs are far too soppy to be able to catch anything. Although many moons ago my DH said he saw our Dalmatian catch and eat a rabbit shock. I refused to believe him. Mainly because I couldn't bear to think of it sad

Katek Tue 01-Sep-15 10:51:23

I'm putting off attacking the disaster zone that is my kitchen as dh cooked last night. Lovely meal but lovely mess. I know I should have tackled it last night but I just. couldn't be bothered. I'll have to get a move on as Tesco delivery due around 11 so more chaos. Aargh-just noticed its 10 to!!! Byeeee!

Elegran Tue 01-Sep-15 11:10:37

I am on here to have a rest from editing several million short clips from the wild-life camera into a reasonable sequence, deleting all the many bits where nothing is happening. The editing software is incompatible with the laptop so it has to be on a small-screen tablet. I am going cross-eyed. This should have been done long ago (all taken last year) but I have procrastinated until I am getting near the deadline - I promised to show the result at the end of September.

Stopped for brew and biscuit

Indinana Tue 01-Sep-15 11:15:50

Goodness, where on earth did 'prevaricating' come from? I swear I typed procrastinating confused. Flippin' iPhone!

merlotgran Tue 01-Sep-15 11:31:49

I'm on here because I was up early walking the dogs, letting the chickens out etc. I then had to iron a shirt for DH because he had an appointment for a blood test this morning and as he missed one last week, (his fault - slapped wrist,) he wanted to butter up nursie make a good impression!

So.....after driving him to his appointment, picking up some milk etc., from the village shop, driving him home again, emptying the washing machine, nagging him to change out of the clean shirt before he wanders off to the workshop, I'm chilling out on the sofa with a coffee.

Because I'm worth it grin
