Prompted by another thread (which shall remain nameless) and since I've finally got my tree done I thought I'd share with you two of my favourite baubles.

One I bought in Paris the week before christmas almost 25 years ago and the other was a gift from a lovely gransnetter much more recently.

That's lovely Baubles
I have a collection of, er, baubles going back 40 years but we are not putting the tree up till this weekend

janeainsworth Wed 16-Dec-15 21:20:16

There was supposed to be a smiley after that shock
Here it is tchsmile

That tree looks lovely. May I ask if it is an artificial one? I ask because I do think they have a better shape than real!! We ditched our artificial for this year and am now wondering if I did the right thing.

Ooh! Love your baubles, baubles, they're beautiful.

baubles Wed 16-Dec-15 21:41:17

It is artificial annsixty. I always had real trees but sadly had to give them up a few years back due to lack of space. The tree was bought the weekend before christmas in those days.

Jane I've quite a few that age too, couldn't bear to part with them.

Thank you baubles it is a lovely shape and I may now decide to get another one. I just found the other one such a pain to put together.

ninathenana Wed 16-Dec-15 22:06:24

Mine

annsixty Wed 16-Dec-15 22:17:59

You are all inspiring me now. I had intended doing my fireplace today like nina's but it is still waiting . That looks lovely.

I'll try to put mine on tomorrow - in bed now. My hairdressers Christmas decs are utterly spectacular. A lot of her decs come from America and she decorates every single room. Takes her days.

Here`s mine. I`m still trying to convince hubby that it`s slanting, but he says it`s fine!

hildajenniJ Thu 17-Dec-15 18:09:20

My tree is still in a bucket outside, but here are my stairs, and the star and snowflake garland I crocheted last year.

Nelliemoser Fri 18-Dec-15 16:14:06

Well mine is up but not decorated. I was in bed with lurgy all day Wednesday and not able to do much yesterday.
We have had an atificial tree for a couple of years since the DGs's arrived.

If they did get to pull it over it would not be so heavy if it landed on their heads, but it is tied down to two large Hifi speakers.
I will work on it when I have a bit more energy back. DGS2 is crawling every where now and a potential tree menace.

I have got my real tree uptoday and have decorated it this afternoon. It is leaning to the right and is fuller on the left side so I am going to attack it with secateurs tomorrow.

No tree for us this year- as we have just arrived in the UK and will be spending Christmas with DDs and GCs. But when we do have one, it has to be real, and locally cut, will only come into the house a couple of days before Christmas with its stem in a water holder- and have real candles on smile

Nelliemoser Fri 18-Dec-15 18:08:34

Number It looks to be like its listing to port.

Bellanonna Fri 18-Dec-15 18:19:32

Welcome to your 2nd home gj
My FiL always used lit real candles. No health and safety back then, but a lovely idea

granjura Fri 18-Dec-15 20:28:52

So the candles on the tree were only lit twice, for about 1 hour each (with a bucket of sand and one of water hidden away round the corner and a water spray too. Tree only was in the house for a few days- sprayed daily- and candles lit on Chrismas day after late lunch, whilst we opened presents, and again the next day- and then out of the house on 1st of Jan.

We used to do this every year in the UK too- will always remember DD1 saying, about 5- oh mummy, can you imagine we are the only people in England to have a proper Christmas' so so sweet.

Coolgran65 Fri 18-Dec-15 20:31:14

I'm hoping that I've managed to upload two pictures.

With family coming for a week we need to make the place toddler proof so not too much sitting about at low level. I don't have a lot of room and so instead of a tree we put lights on the plant in the porch.

Then tried to make the fireplace and chimney breast look really nice.

granjura Fri 18-Dec-15 20:33:56

Thanks for the welcome bella- and a Joyeux Noël to you too.

Coolgran65 Fri 18-Dec-15 20:34:39

I love all your trees, I remember many years ago when just married, putting up an artificial tree and hanging the pine scented car fresheners at the back. Oh dear.... I didn't have much sense.

granjura Fri 18-Dec-15 20:38:20

1 hour each day not each (Christmas Day = 24th on the Continent and the 25th too).

Bellanonna Fri 18-Dec-15 20:58:36

Merci gj

merlotgran Fri 18-Dec-15 21:09:51

My sis-in-law is Swiss and they always light real candles on the tree on Christmas Eve.

Used to give DH the heebie-jeebies tchgrin

numberplease Fri 18-Dec-15 23:37:29

Nelliemoser, you`re right, I`ve been saying it all week, but his lordship says it`s fine, what can I do? Just grin and bear it I suppose.
