We have another full week of Sport on t.v. I know a lot of you enjoy your football/tennis/golf - BUT as far as I am concerned it now beyond a joke. I am so pleased we do not pay a t.v. licence.

M0nica Sat 02-Jul-16 16:42:47

PRINTMISS I am with you. Fortunately none of the men in my family have any interest eithe.,

Although we do still pay for a television license, we are radio listeners rather than viewers so we consider that we are paying for that instead.

phoenix Sat 02-Jul-16 17:04:42

I don't mind the odd bit of tennis, but would ban football in a heartbeat!

breeze Sat 02-Jul-16 17:12:01

Pick a bale a cotton! Have you just admitted to dodging the license fee or do you live abroad? Just joshing. I like sports. But we do live in a divided household. Some football fans. Myself and OH golf/tennis (him Rugby), grandkids egg and spoon (not yet televised!). Surely another channel to watch if you're not keen?

Maranta Sat 02-Jul-16 17:14:23

I'm another one totally uninterested in sport. Unfortunately, due to medication making me feel dizzy, I am reduced to sitting in front of the tennis - albeit with a book and GN on hand, but not what I usually do in July, usually out in the garden.

sunseeker Sat 02-Jul-16 17:24:43

I'm another not interested in sport. Why does everything have to move so some match or other can be shown. I switch on the TV at 6.00 every night to watch the news and in the past week there have been several times when it has been replaced by a football match! There are enough channels these days that surely one could be set aside solely for sport (whinge over!)

Stansgran Sat 02-Jul-16 17:35:13

Oh I am so tired of it. Even when someone plays well which is rare there is too much. And if it's not sport it's the news over and over again. I'm taking myself off to bed so often I'll have bedsores.

rosesarered Sat 02-Jul-16 17:38:55

I'm not into sports really either, but it keeps DH happy as he loves all sports.I take myself off to the study or conservatory and listen to music /radio/ read books/ play on the PC or iPad/phone friends/ go out and meet friends, so there is always something else to do.

grannylyn65 Sat 02-Jul-16 18:17:15

No DH and no sports!!!

Coolgran65 Sat 02-Jul-16 18:57:22

At least two matches daily for dh.
It'll soon be over.

Jane10 Sat 02-Jul-16 19:08:02

I'm really really sick of it. Angry too. I see that exactly the same football match is going to be on both BBC and ITV at the same time.

tanith Sat 02-Jul-16 19:38:57

Well my newspaper says Casualty is on at 9:25 , what is going on? Sorry I meant to say I don't mind the sport OH and I like Wimbledon and we watch the football games mostly involving home teams..

Alima Sat 02-Jul-16 20:15:06

DH loves watching all sport, after 40 years I am used to avoiding anything that does not interest me and it keeps him happy though I do like watching some football. TBH there is so much crap on telly nowadays it isn't just sport I am avoiding. As well as gardening and reading I find I am watching more on my iPad

Ana Sat 02-Jul-16 20:17:00

I, too, am peed off that both BBC1 and ITV are showing the football tonight. Over the weeks they've been aternating, so I thought at least I'd have Casualty to watch tonight.

Ridiculous! angry

ginny Sat 02-Jul-16 20:36:16

I can't stand all the sport either and we still have the Olympics to come !

ginny Sat 02-Jul-16 20:37:26

Actually it issue worse by a lot of te commentators with their yelling and inane remarks.

Deedaa Sat 02-Jul-16 21:00:31

I know a lot of people really enjoy watching Wimbledon but it's on both BBC channels all afternoon and evening every day! And then they have highlights in the evening! I don't mind the football so much as I have watched a few of the matches, but so much stuff has either been taken off or moved to weird times.

Indinana Sat 02-Jul-16 21:06:30

I can't stand all the sport either. Never mind Euro 2016. Wimbledon, the Rugby, and the forthcoming Olympics - my DH subscribes to Sky Sports and would happily sit and watch sports all evening, every evening. Oh, interspersed with a bit of Eggheads or Pointless, both of which he records so he can watch them whenever the sport doesn't hold his interest.
Thank heavens for the other room, where we have another TV and Sky box, so I can watch what I want to - or just sit in peace, reading a book - without having to fall out over it!

numberplease Sat 02-Jul-16 21:47:48

I`m another who hates sport, and the wall to wall football is getting just a bit too much. Buying the TV Times is a waste of money right now, we can`t plan ahead for viewing unless we know which channel is showing football. I`m so disappointed not to have Casualty tonight.
Breeze, Printmiss isn`t a TV license dodger, she`s reached, and passed, the age whereby she no longer has to pay for a license. I hope she doesn`t mind me saying so.

Newquay Sat 02-Jul-16 22:30:26

As I write DH has caught up with tennis highlights and is now watching some football. We've just come on from my choral concert-G&S, went really well since you ask-and immediately on goes the sport. It drives me mad. Please forgive me those of you who would give anything to have your DHs there to moan about. . . .
I wouldn't mind but it just swamps everything. When you think what's going on in the world and in the country come to that and we just seem to have wall to wall sport. Wouldn't mind if these pampered and overpaid prima donnas set a good example for our youngsters but they generally are such a shower.

Badenkate Sat 02-Jul-16 23:30:52

I like the Tour de France - lovely scenery and fit men in lycra wink

Pippa000 Sun 03-Jul-16 07:54:11

I was really miffed when they changed the time for Country File for sport, perhaps I missed the announcement. We eventually found it and watched on Catch-up on Wednesday. neither DH or I into football but I do watch the very occasional tennis match. Now Rugby is a different matter grin

Gagagran Sun 03-Jul-16 08:19:09

Badenkate - me too. Love the Tour including the marvellous scenery. We have been to watch it in France three times and it was just brilliant. DH is a keen cyclist so it is something we watch together unlike the other sports he loves - rugby (both codes) and football.I do have a favourite football team though and have done from childhood (Liverpool).

I like horse racing for the same reason as I like cycling- beautiful fit athletes performing at the highest level and always straining every sinew to win.

The TV schedulers must think a majority of viewers want to watch the sport they put on but it does feel rather selfish to override what non-sporty others want. I agree that a dedicated sports channel should be used on BBC/ITV like the SkySports and Eurosports ones.

Newquay Sun 03-Jul-16 08:46:46

Yes Gagagran there should be a separate dedicated BBC/ITV sports so that those who want to can watch sport without having to pay for Sky's exorbitant fees and the rest can get on with watching our usual progs.
Yes Badenkate I do enjoy the Tour de France. We record the highlights. I love France very much and love seeing the country as they pass through. They have drunken oils too in their crowds don't they?

PRINTMISS Sun 03-Jul-16 08:57:11

numberplease don't mind at all, - past the age of most things now, let it flow! Just like to get a conversation going on something I need to get off my chest.
