wish I could do that

I'd love to be able to sing. My Welsh grandfather had an opera singer level of voice and my mother is very musical. I sound like a frog with a sore throat whenever I try to sing.

I wish I could play the piano. We never had the means or the opportunity when I was growing up. Now that I'm retired I was thinking of buying an electronic piano, but finding a teacher is difficult, they seem very thin on the ground.

Play a musical instrument really well.

Draw peoples portraits.

I would also like to be able to write all the thoughts, ideas and stories in my head make sense when I try to write them down.

I wish I could ice skate. Not to do all the leaps and swizzles but just to glide gracefully over the ice, it always looks so easy when the professionals do it. I took myself off 20 miles to my nearest rink once in my teens, but they didn't have any boots to fit me (size 8 feet) and I was so embarrassed I never went again

SueDonim I wish I could sing too. I used to be in a couple of choirs at school but didn't keep it up. I tried again about 10 years ago but didn't go back as I could hear I sounded awful. Even my grandson objected when younger and I tried to sing him to sleep

I only sing to my GC.

I didn't know I couldn't sing until the music teacher at my grammar school told me in no uncertain terms that I wasn't suitable for the school choir.

I have always wanted to be able to dance. Although I managed to dance the polka in school wet weather PE lessons it is not the same as being able to nonchalantly take to the floor with a quickstep or jive. I never got further than bobbing up and down dancing around my handbag.

I can't drive or swim. I should have learned to do both. I envy dancers and people who sing and dance in musicals.

I used to be able to dance, having learned from an early age. Those days are long gone, too much metal in my joints now.

I can swim and drive. I only learned to do the latter- my ex told me that I would never manage because I was too stupid- wrong- I passed my test first time and that was when I was under stress of him having walking out.

I wish I could get in our car and drive it. I passed my test a number of years ago, had my own car, but I would get so nervous at the thought of driving I would make any excuse to get out of it. Eventually I just gave it up all together but I still hope one day I will feel brave enough to get behind the wheel again!

I would love to have learnt to be a plasterer or bricklayer. The neat results of both are so pleasing to the eye. I would particularly like to be able to build a 'barley sugar twist' chimney stack. I suffer from vertigo, so I have no chance of achieving this ambition!

I would like to be fluent in lots of languages, better still, bilingual.

Oh Shysal my DH always says he wants to be a bricklayer when he grows up for the same reasons you have too?

DanniRae why do you not book yourself a couple of hours lessons? That will give you the confidence (or not) to continue on your own. Is your licence up to date?

I would also love to learn hoe to lay bricks, a good wall is a joy to behold. The experts make it look so easy, but when I have tried the result looks like a five year old has done it (and that is insulting to some 5 year olds)

I would love to be able to jive, but never could get the hang of it. Probably look totally silly now even if I could! I would also like to play with the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, but unfortunately I can only play the piano (and not very bad well at that!).

I would also like to learn languages one of my grandsons is bi-lingual Spanish/English and I've tried courses but it doesn't seem to stick with me.

I wish I could sing. I have never been a very good singer but, having had laryngophayngeal reflux that affected my vocal cords, my voice has been even worse. How lovely it would be to stand up with a great choir and blast out the Hallelujah Chorus and other wonderful choral works.

I keep thinking about that Charleygirl but also I think maybe a couple of sessions with a hypnotist?? Yes my licence is up to date - well I am 68 so I guess it is?

When my husband renews the car insurance he always puts me on it so I guess he has faith in me - but sadly I don't have faith in me

Greyduster we are currently at a Warner hotel jazz weekend. I am amazed to watch several 60-70+ yr old couples jiving like they're in their 20s. Awesome.

Not that I would do it, or indeed want to, seeing generally a young man run up to a fence/wall and place two hands on it and leap over it. I am the sort that has trouble clambering over a style.

There are hundreds of things I can't do that I wish I could - drive, swim (properly), play the piano, speak a foreign language, knit, sew. Oh, I'd better stop there, I'm depressing myself.
