Why are so many Gransnetters so misandrist

That's right women who enjoy complaining about the faults in men and seem not see that they too are less than perfect.

There are two misandrist threads running at the moment. If it was men attacking women, the thread would have been shouted down or withdrawn very quickly.

I worked mainly in a male environment and I have also worked with women and found both genders equally difficult or easy to work with depending on their individual characteristics.

I find the knocking men threads on Gransnet quite unpleasant.

Don't read them then

merlotgran Tue 04-Oct-16 14:38:53

There are not enough men on Gransnet for the boot to be on the other foot.

Would make an interesting and lively thread though.

nanaK54 Tue 04-Oct-16 14:39:46

Oh that's a new word for me!
Haven't yet read the threads to which you refer - off to do so now!

I think the threads complaining about men are mostly rather tongue in cheek and those who are posting are not really seriously prejudiced against men.

grannylyn65 Tue 04-Oct-16 14:48:20

New word for me too ! Who knew!!!

Swanny Tue 04-Oct-16 15:10:51

I've only read one about perfect husbands, which I think is an oxymoron in itself grin I read the posts as tongue in cheek comments, not misandrous at all, and would not have believed anyone would take them seriously confused

Ana Tue 04-Oct-16 15:21:41

I see M0nica's point though - there are an awful lot of 'you need a man like a fish needs a bicycle' type comments on the I Need a Man thread!

DaphneBroon Tue 04-Oct-16 15:32:09

Oh come off it! Harmless banter, some people just can't see a teacup without brewing up a storm in it.

ninathenana Tue 04-Oct-16 15:32:54

"Perfect people don't exist , if they did they'd be rather boring"
I don't know where that quote comes from but it's one of my favourites smile
All very tongue in cheek and grin I'd be happy to see one on the same theme from the men. wobblybits and others have commented on the thread about wives, fares fare.

annsixty Tue 04-Oct-16 15:52:22

A sense of humour bypass is sometimes very prevelant on GN.

rosesarered Tue 04-Oct-16 15:53:39

There are certainly plenty of pessimists about.

Ana Tue 04-Oct-16 16:02:05

Ah, but Wobblybits has been castigated in the past for having a joke at women's expense - or was it innuendo? Either way, he had to take a lot of flak.

Ana Tue 04-Oct-16 16:03:45

Oh, I agree, roses! Some of the threads would have us believe we're all doomed, doomed...grin

Jane10 Tue 04-Oct-16 16:07:17

Do you mean misogynistic?

Falconbird Tue 04-Oct-16 16:09:31

Where are these contentious threads and thread with swearing in and comments that have to be deleted.

I can't find them. confused

Wobblybits Tue 04-Oct-16 16:36:02

I have been shouting for the mans side of the "perfect husband" thread, but oddly I don't seem to be heard sad

But I do consider the thread to be harmless banter and in good humour. However I had previously consider our lady Gners to be beyond reproach, but as all husbands are perfect, there are some porky pies being told.

Linsco56 Tue 04-Oct-16 16:46:31

I don't think we are misandrist. Most of what is written is done so in a jocular manner and I think most men would agree with what we say. You should hear some of the things DH has to say about me, and when I'm within earshot. I don't take offence, it's just poking fun at each other.

Eloethan Tue 04-Oct-16 16:57:31

There are not very nice women as well as not very nice men. The difference is that the balance of power in most, if not all, societies is usually weighted in favour of men and women's grumbles or sarcastic remarks - even if they are unfair if applied to men in general - don't generally change that.

M0nica Tue 04-Oct-16 17:01:45

mysogynistics are men who dislike women. misandrists are women who dislike men.

The 'it is just a joke', or just 'tongue in cheek' is the excuse used by men when they are dissing women or school bullies when the victim complains.

I do try to skip the threads but odd snide comments creep into all sorts of threads - and then take off.

I am not sure perfect people are boring. Anne Elliot in Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' is one that isn't. It is just that, in fiction, perfect people are very difficult to write.

Wobblybits Tue 04-Oct-16 17:01:45

I have to say that atm I can only find one misandrist thread and that is in good heart. (unless of course you include this one)
As Ana says I did once cop the wroth of some Gners, the odd thing was that my comments were intended to be complimentary to the ladies, and I'm not going there again.

Wobblybits Tue 04-Oct-16 17:05:39

MONICA, so if as you sat "it's just a joke " is just a ploy, do you therefore consider the current "perfect Husband "thread to be serious, but just disguised as a joke -- you can;t have it both ways. For me the thread is good humoured banter.

morethan2 Tue 04-Oct-16 17:18:59

I do know that MOnica and I can tell the difference between being plain rude, humorous, flippant, condescending, and harmless banter. If we were always so p.c then gransnet would be bleak and boring, as would the world we live in. The list of things we couldn't joke about would be endless.

obieone Tue 04-Oct-16 17:26:27

Why cant women dislike men? And men dislike women?

And why does pointing out mens' faults mean that women dislike them???

Wobblybits Tue 04-Oct-16 17:30:44

Actually having just realise that Monica also started this thread I probably misinterpreted her more recent post. So ignore my comment. Sorry Monica.
