Hooray - the Conservatives won the election!

Several people on GN made posts saying something like " Hooray - the Conservatives won the election! "

I'd like to ask if they, or anyone else who agrees with them, have seen the film "I, Daniel Blake" and, if so, have they any comment to make?

People who were not happy when the Conservatives won the election, please do not post on this thread.

You cannot keep posters off any thread.
Why go back in time to the GE
Am guessing the film ( being Ken Loach) is about deprived people.....so, are you hoping to stir up controvesy by this thread? If so, why?

Ooh do we have to pass some sort of selection test? Saying "people who .... please do not post on this thread" is red rag to a bull!
Haven't seen the film, so I was a little discombobulated by the thread title!! Thinking have I been asleep and missed another vote? grin

I'm pretty sure no one at all posted 'Hooray, the Conservatives won the election' or anything like it on GN!

If it had been Labour that won, there'd have been no containing the gloating posts though.

Just like after the EU referendum, really...

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 17:26:29

There's already a thread about 'I, Daniel Blake' btw.

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 17:34:30

Well, I don't know Ana..grin..I may well have done, was so relieved ( and there was no chance this time, but hoped it would be a Tory and Lib Dem coalition again) that Labour didn't get in, just when the economy was doung a little better.

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:43:56

I suppose the OP is asking if those who voted for the Conservative party are still happy with the state of the nation. Seems a reasonable topic for a forum to me.

kittylester Sun 13-Nov-16 17:44:01

Shouldn't we be taking this seriously?

Which election are we taking about please? confused

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:47:10

I think if you have not seen the film, or others by KL, you really are not in a position to comment about it with any kind of real knowledge!

suzied Sun 13-Nov-16 17:49:25

Ana....Noone who voted Conservative would gloat...unlike those who vote Labour????what does that mean.? Conservative voters are noble, honerable and above gloating?..really? Obviously Conservative voters are mich nicer people ......

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:49:37

Presumably the last one where David Cameron lead the Conservative Party to a second victory?

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 17:49:40

Is that an order Penstemmon?

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 17:51:11

See, confrontation already! Just what Far North envisaged, no doubt.

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 17:53:07

No, suzied, but they're usually shouted down on here to such a degree that not many would actually admit to voting Conservative!

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 17:54:17

Ken Loach has been making social films/ docu dramas since the 60's, since when we have had Labour in power for years as well as Tories.

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 17:55:27

I haven't seen 'I Daniel Blake' but have seen others by Ken Loach. Does that entitle me to pontificate about the state of the nation Penstemmon...? confused

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:56:03

No roses not an order at all just an opinion. post what you like about films you have not seen!

Penstemmon Sun 13-Nov-16 17:56:53

Ana you and I often do without seeing any particular film!

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 17:58:30

I can imagine what the film will be like, but since I am not talking about it Penstemon what you say makes no sense.

rosesarered Sun 13-Nov-16 18:00:45

Ken Loach has made many good films highlighting the poor and the forgotten about in society, but my point is.. things have only changed slightly, no matter if the Conservatives or Labour was in power.

FarNorth Sun 13-Nov-16 18:04:00

Sigh...
Yes, some people did say Hooray...etc on GN, after the 2015 general election.
No, I didn't want controversy, confrontation or anything of that sort.
It was a straightforward question : If you supported the Conservatives at the time of the general election and/or you support them now, do you have any comments after seeing the film "I, Daniel Bkake"?

FarNorth Sun 13-Nov-16 18:04:49

*Blake

Ana Sun 13-Nov-16 18:05:36

I think if you have not seen the film, or others by KL, you really are not in a position to comment about it with any kind of real knowledge!

This is what you said, Penstemmon, I was just wondering why having seen other films by Ken Loach would mean I was in a position to comment about 'I, Daniel Blake'

suzied Sun 13-Nov-16 18:08:08

Anna- But Labour voters seem equally to be shouted down, non?

Tegan Sun 13-Nov-16 18:11:52

I haven't been in the right sort of mood for cinema going lately so I'm glad you've reminded me about the film. Thankfully it's still on at our cinema. Ken Loach came and gave a talk there a couple of years ago. Amazing, lovely man, who's had his fair share of heartache but still cares about other. However, I'm sure that all of the people who voted Conservative are happy at the way the economy is in such safe hands....
