Yes, another shock this morning . On Christmas Eve , I put on some good old hard rockin' Status Quo , in honour of Rick Parfitt . This morning A Different Corner is playing on repeat .Sad.
Another part of my younger days lost even though he was a lot younger than me I did love those "Wham" songs and video's that you could sing along to we played "Last Christmas" just yesterday afternoon such a waste of brilliant talent,RIP George you will be missed.
We have lost so many 'famous' people this year. My husband sang in the clubs and did a lot of Quo music. He died in July and I had a Quo record played at his funeral. It's reported that George Michael passed away peacefully at home so it must not have been an unexpected death. So very young. Let's hope for a better 2017 for us all.
I missed the announcement about Rick Parfitt, who had been ill for so long that his health issues were almost forgotten, but George Michael, perhaps one of the most unhappy people in the world, was somehow a shock. I agree with Legs55 - while many of those who have gone this year were elderly or ill, we will miss so many much-loved entertainers and others who have died in 2016.
But why do they insist on calling him part of a pop "group" Wham? Last time I looked, one musician plus one musician was a "duo". To be a "group" surely you need to be part of a trio, quartet or more. Or am I just being pedantic?
We saw George at the Manchester Arena nine or ten years ago. He'd been found asleep at the wheel of his car a few days earlier and when he hadn't turned up an hour after the start time we thought he wasn't going to show. Then he bounded on stage and gave us the best performance we have ever seen. Luckily we had a hotel booked, as the show ran on till nearly midnight What a great talent he had.
So young. I can't make up my mind whether it was a rock and roll lifestyle, poor health or a combination of the two. Though I was never a fan especially, he was clearly a multi talented man. RIP.
I was not a huge fan but he made some very good recordings. I did love A Different Corner & his performance of Need Someone to Love at Freddie Mercury tribute concert was outstanding. A troubled soul. I hope he has found peace.
