I was just wondering as I announced to the world my intention to eventually have a shower this morning (11.21) why do we say
'jump into the shower'
'pile on the pounds'

phrases like that really

Luckygirl Sat 21-Jan-17 11:26:40

I won't be "jumping" into the shower any time soon!

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 11:41:58

I said on a thread one here once how 'wrong' to me the phrase 'jump in the shower' was and got all sorts of indignant replies! grin

Cherrytree59 Sat 21-Jan-17 11:52:22

My DH would struggle to converse without the addition of'
'over emphasis' or exaggeration grin

MawBroon Sat 21-Jan-17 12:04:52

Like "grabbing a coffee" -could get you arrested for shoplifting? grin
However I am rather fond of "pinging" an email .......

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 12:06:35

Some also say 'grab a shower' - what???

downtoearth Sat 21-Jan-17 12:14:53

I jump in the shower too ..and jump in to bed ..and out again ..in and out of the car ..you guessed with a jump..but I run up the shops and grab some shopping and pop up the road...take the dog for a run....therefore why am I piling on all the weight.despite all the running jumping popping that I do daily[hmm

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 12:20:34

I'm very suprised you're not in hospital with multiple fractures, downtoearth!

ninathenana Sat 21-Jan-17 12:26:11

I might take a 'run out in the car' tomorrow that's as energetic as I get.

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 12:29:42

'Bobbing' and 'nipping' are two more things some people always seem to be doing...

downtoearth Sat 21-Jan-17 12:31:59

Ana have slipped out up and over a few times grin

Jane10 Sat 21-Jan-17 12:33:37

grin am enjoying this thread. I can't jump, pop or nip these days!

rosesarered Sat 21-Jan-17 12:45:54

Yes, a pleasant light thread for a change grin we need more levity on here.I like the phrase 'popping out for a bit' although I never jump in the shower or grab one.
I potter ,( or totter?) to the shops rather than run, although DH uses buzzing for some reason as in ' I'm buzzzing off to get petrol now' .

vampirequeen Sat 21-Jan-17 12:54:30

We boodle in our car.

rosesarered Sat 21-Jan-17 12:56:48

TMI VQ grin

nanaK54 Sat 21-Jan-17 13:02:20

I 'leap out of bed' every morning only because I need to 'dash' to the loo!

MawBroon Sat 21-Jan-17 13:04:58

Well Grace and I "popped" to the village shop for today's paper, but anybody watching might have said it was more of an amble.

Katek Sat 21-Jan-17 13:08:42

I dived out of the door this morning as I was running late. I'm not lying comatose on the front lawn btw.

vampirequeen Sat 21-Jan-17 13:08:48

grin

rosesarered Sat 21-Jan-17 13:09:26

.....but at least you went doggedly there Maw

vampirequeen Sat 21-Jan-17 13:10:43

I watched an old episode of Last of the Summer Wine last night. It was Compo's funeral. I cried buckets.

nanaK54 Sat 21-Jan-17 13:12:01

Best I get off here and 'throw' myself into some useful activity

Ana Sat 21-Jan-17 13:13:12

Must have been very painful, Vampirequeen!

Auntieflo Sat 21-Jan-17 14:07:34

Like the popping out for a bit. Roses grin

harrigran Sat 21-Jan-17 14:13:31
