Decadence

I always feel slightly decadent when I go to the cinema in the afternoon.

When I refill my hot water bottle in the morning and take it back to bed with a cuppa.

Drinking a glass of sparkling just because I want to. This happens rarely unless I have a small bottle of Prosecco in the fridge grin

How are your decadent ?

Spending the day on my garden lounger under the trees with a good book, a cold drink the smell of roses in the air and the occasional daydream about a tropical paradise while watching fluffy white clouds in a bright blue sky.

I always think I should be doing something more productive wink

Leaving the house work undone and b*******g off for the day,and dreaming that the fairies have been in and done it ....normally the goblins add to it by the time I get back

I agree about going to the cinema in the afternoon. Very decadent, that!

For me, the height of decadence is having a bath in the day. Not a bubbly, deep one with the radio on, just an ordinary quick dunk.

Oh, and drinking Baileys. Baileys is very decadent, especially with ice and added whisky.

Rinouchka Sun 12-Feb-17 13:25:51

I indulge in all of the above and more.
To me, decadent suggests "denting" the "decay" and that is what we should all do, in whichever way pleases us (and harms no one).

Butter on my bread if I have soup.

Real chicken Ina white bread sandwich with butter?

There's a theme emerging here smile???

Breakfast out, don't know why but it is.

merlotgran Sun 12-Feb-17 15:00:54

I feel decadent every time I pour us a G&T, spot DH isn't looking and add another capful to mine. grin

glammanana Sun 12-Feb-17 15:06:17

cornergran I'm just back from a late "brunch" out and am feeling very decadent indeed.

Angib Sun 12-Feb-17 16:09:40

Merlotgran so I'm not the only one.

NanKate Sun 12-Feb-17 16:28:01

Well said Rinouchka, there is nothing like a bit of decadence to lift the spirits and as you said harms no one.

Perhaps next week should be designated 'Dive into a Decadent Delight ' grin

Sitting on the sofa in the afternoon with a new book and chocolate. Ignoring the pile of ironing at the same time is even better. smile

Luckygirl Sun 12-Feb-17 18:08:43

Sunday afternoon, wood stove blazing, Radio 3 on (The Choir, and Words and Music), a cup of peppermint tea and a good book. Aah - that's better!

callgirl1 Sun 12-Feb-17 18:36:44

Doing what I`ve just done, munched my way through a whole box of Chocolate mint thins, then being surprised to find the box empty!

Grandma2213 Mon 13-Feb-17 01:07:17

Eating crisps, drinking sherry and watching past episodes of 'X Files' (sad... I know!)

NanKate Mon 13-Feb-17 06:44:45

I'm a sherry drinker too Grandma, snap !

Grannyknot Mon 13-Feb-17 07:54:37

Getting on the couch to watch a film on TV the moment that OH is out the door and off to work - at 7:15 in the morning! ?

kittylester Mon 13-Feb-17 08:02:14

Lounging in bed with a cup of tea and my phone.

downtoearth Mon 13-Feb-17 08:03:21

Exactly what I am doing now kittybrew

Witzend Mon 13-Feb-17 09:56:13

Watching daytime TV. I make an exception for Homes under the Hammer, which helps to make the ironing a bit less of a chore. Ditto Heir Hunters, when it was on in the mornings.

Lying on the sofa in the daytime with a book, when there's plenty of stuff I ought to be doing instead, and particularly on a reasonably nice day, when I should be outside doing something Healthy.
I don't let these thought bother me too much, though.
Sod it.

Cream cheese, boiled egg, smoked salmon and caviar canapes with a sparkling wine every Christmas Eve. DH hates it but I love it, it's my Christmas Eve Treat if I can find it in the shops.

kooklafan Mon 13-Feb-17 10:09:03

yummy

Kim19 Mon 13-Feb-17 10:12:41

Gosh these are all lovely, fun and very amusing. Keep them coming ladies. I guess my life is total decadence in that I do all or any of these things at a whim. Rename it retirement in solitude?!

Legs55 Mon 13-Feb-17 10:38:01

Sunday spent reading the newspapers, doing the crosswords & sudoku. Not getting dressed until lunch-time, heaven.

Ignoring the housework & getting out in the garden or going out for the day, I can ignore dust & ironing easily

Smoked salmon, fillet steak, home made soup & fresh, crusty (buttered) bread

Large G & T in the evening

Doing what I want, when I want (most of the time). Retirement + widowhood means I choose how my day goes

Lilyflower Mon 13-Feb-17 10:50:45

Solitude is my decadent treat. After a lifetime of clamour from pupils, colleagues, management, DH and family being able to spend a day on my own doing what I want, when I want is sheer luxury.

I work very hard and keep a house and garden decorated, maintained, repaired and cleaned all by myself as I feel it is my part of the bargain while my DH is still working. But no one rushes me, or criticises me or interrupts me or OFSTEDs me and it is bliss. In fact I OFSTED myself and I no longer find it necessary to be good or outstanding. A satisfactory grading does very nicely, thank you.

Decadence lies in the space between loneliness and solitude.

Of course, by about Thursday I am looking forwrd to some company at the weekend. Its the best of both worlds.
