Holiday reads

Kindles are great for holidays! I recommend Amanda Prowse (especially the No Greater Love series), Fern Britton, Erica James, Dorothy Koomson and Lucy Diamond.

Have not read whole thread, but a couple I have recently enjoyed are "The Keeper of lost things", by Ruth Hogan - I feel this one will be one of those few books I might re-read, it is a lovely story, different and in my opinion, well written.
Another, of a lighter nature, is "The Kicking the Bucket List", again, a different story, and much enjoyed!

I've just finished Clare Balding's book 'My Animals and Other Family'. It's an old book, but if you are fond of horses and dogs, it's lovely.

I've just finished 'Everyone Brave Is Forgiven' by Chris Cleave, and found it really enthralling. Set n WW2, it's one of the best books that I've read in years.

See if your library lets you borrow via your kindle. I was on the Mekong with a passenger from NZ and I recommended a book by Colin Cotterill which she promptly downloaded from her local library in Wellington. I was staggered.

I often download the 99p books on to my Kindle, but some of them are really awful, despite glowing reviews.

However, I just finished "Redemption Blues" by T D Griggs which was one of them, and got totally lost in the characters and the story. Beautiful writing style and a gripping story. It's about a policemen but it's not quite crime fiction.

I thoroughly recommend it!!

SueDoku I read your post with interest, I agree with you, I thought it was really good (except that all 4 main characters seemed to have the same sense of humourous speaking) - but I was the only person in my book club who did!

Back from lovely holiday. Only managed to read a few of the recommended books, but will certainly set aside some time to read others. Especially enjoyed The Missing Wife and Lie With Me. The books set in the Edinburgh dept. store were enjoyable. Thanks again to you all ?

'The Book Thief' is one of my favorite. We discussed books with my grandchild last week and recommended her for reading. She was surprised a bit because they've got the literary essay on the book thief at the college. I was glad to be helpful with her assignment.
This week I start reading Tolkien's "The Silmarillion". I might say that it's good as his "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit", fans like me will enjoy it.

If you`re a Jo Nesbo fan, the latest Harry Hole book, The Thirst, is a cracking read.
If you prefer your reading a bit more comfy and heart warming, there`s a lovely trilogy by Margaret Dickinson, Plough the Furrow, Sow the Seed, and Reap the Harvest, 3 lovely books, but then I like Margaret Dickinson`s books.

One Day in December by Shari Low. A fabulous read. Easy and great story of several people and how their lives pan ot in one day.
The Woman next door by Cass Green if you like a Psychological thriller.

Realize I'm a bit late to the game but might I suggest you sign up for some free and discount book services? The ones I use include BookCave, Kindle Freebies, BookRunes, and BookBub. You can pick the genres you like and you'll get daily emails with free and cheap book recommendations. I've found a number of cozy mysteries that I've really enjoyed - among them the Reverend Annabelle Dixon series, the Squeaky Clean mysteries (be aware it's a Christian series but not super preachy), the Housewife Assassin series, and anything by Stephanie Bond. If you're not familiar with the genre, "cozies" typically feature amateur sleuths, humour, and sometimes animals. They're lighthearted and fun.
