What have you 'always wanted' and did you get it?

Apparently Lewis Hamilton always wanted a private jet (and got one) - is there anything you've always wanted? And, did it live up to your expectation?

I wanted a Jackie Brazil necklace but it is soooo heavy I rarely wear it.

I always wanted a bike, but never got one. My father was an ambulance driver and my mother said he had seen so many cyclists with head injuries that he would not allow it. (He was a very strict father).
You can imagine my disappointment one Christmas when my brother got a bike.

A Tressie, a Dalek costume, a Beatles bag, those pink glittery plastic Cinderella slippers and a little brother. Knocked back every time.

I had a very deprived childhood (sigh).

Marydoll Me too! seems boys were treated differently as my brother had 3 bikes over the years! It is now a standing joke in the family that "S never got her bike"

I still want want one, but joints won't allow it!

Well at least you had the option of buying yourselves bikes when you grew up. My size 7s were never going to squeeze into those glass slippers. grin

I always wanted a daughter, but I only had boys. Now I have a granddaughter, which is nice but not the same.

I realise now that I had a particular image of a daughter, and if I’d had one she’d probably have been completely different, so perhaps just as well I didn’t.

I want to be size 10 ......never going to happen.

When little I wanted a racing car set. I got one for Christmas and my dad and uncle played on it all day. After that no one would play it with me......grown ups were always so busy. I needed a grown up to put it together and it needed two to play.

A quiet life, where everything went well and all were healthy. No, I didn’t get it, but there is a difference between hope and expectation.
On a lighter note, I always wanted two Siamese cats ( but homeless moggies always appeared on the doorstep.)smile

A piano! Both my parents could play but for some reason never sent me to lessons as a child. They bought one when I was about 15 which I could manage to play a tune with my right hand on but I was in my late 30s when I finally decided to have lessons and bought myself a cheap second hand one. Sadly by that time my fingers were too stiff and although I got to grade 4 I was never going to be able to play in front of anyone and my husband said it took up too much room so we gave it away. Still regret it sad

I wanted piano lessons but never got them and now my fingers are too nobbly and there is no room for a piano. It annoys me that DH had piano lessons and gave it up!!!

A 1950’s kitchen cabinet! My mother had one and I loved it. It had a drop-down flap which was used for everything, from cutting bread to cutting up the dog’s dinner....! It stored no end of stuff, too.
We discovered one while on holiday in Ironbridge, but it was going to cost an arm and a leg to get it delivered to Fife.
My dreams came true when we found one in our local Furniture Plus, which is a warehouse of second hand stuff where the money raised goes to help homeless people.
Everyone’s a winner!

To be able to play the banjo, hubby has 2 of them and plays well but I can't get the strings to sound right ???
When little I always wanted a twin pram but never got one all my dollies had to live under one hood all cramped together.

As a child I always wanted to be a redhead. Only achieved it out of a bottle as an adult, and it soon faded to pink!

MissAdventure Tue 07-Nov-17 09:14:51

I always wanted some sea monkeys when I was a child, because comics had advertisements for them which made them sound wonderful! It showed pictures of little monkeys swimming around, and said they were cheeky and you could teach them tricks. I did get some, when I was in my thirties. Not quite like the advert, I have to say.

Willo500,
Could you buy yourself a keyboard now? And just play for yourself?

loopyloo Tue 07-Nov-17 09:20:05

I always wanted to be able to see without my glasses. When I was 18 I had hard contact lenses. That changed my life. Men started asking me out! Amazing. Now I think about lense replacement but don't want to have ops on healthy eyes.
I do think people are more friendly to me even now if I am wearing lenses.

glammanana Tue 07-Nov-17 09:46:00

Oh loopyloo I forgot that I had to wear those horrible pink NHS plastic specs when I was 6/7 and to add to the "glamma" I had to have a patch over one eye, mortified to say the least.
I must admit I do love my specs now and have loads of styles including sunglasses.

I always wanted an engagement ring. I've been married 3 times and never had even one .
I am currently wearing my late mums ring which is on loan.

A red pedal car. Anytime I had a wish to make that would be it. Never got one but my first car was red. Having said that I hate driving so maybe I will have a red mobility scooter eventually.

An adult size garden swing with plenty of cushioning on the ground below - maybe a 2 seater?

adaunas Tue 07-Nov-17 10:15:20
