Lead me not into temptation

This time of year is a nightmare. There are so many delicious things around everywhere I go and I have no will power whatsoever. Mince pies are the worst, especially when served warm. One is never enough. I want to eat EVERYTHING but I know I will regret it. How can I stop myself when I am hopeless at resisting temptation?

I have always enjoyed the specialist foods at this time of year and mince pies are included along with all the continental delights what has stopped me this year is my weight loss that I am determined to keep up and the fact that a friend of ours was rushed into a cardiac ward with blocked arteries due to overeating the likes of high fat foods such as mince pies, this year I never touched one and when I see them on display I think of that friend and walk past them.

I hope you know the Pope wants that wording changed to something like , help me to resist temptation.
Would that make it easier for you grin

It might grin

glammanana that is a good point and I do know these things are bad for me yet I find myself incapable of saying no and would like to change this.

I used to gain half a stone every Christmas as I ate most of the trifle, Xmas cake and pudding, cheese, nuts, dates and figs. I love all those traditional goodies but I don't like mince pies.
Now I make no cake or pudding and don’t buy the seasonal fruits. Nobody else here wants them so no delicious temptations for me. tchsad

I know I sound Scrooge but I only buy normal foods unless we are having visitors for OH and I with one or two treats . I can't have all the Christmas treats in the house and not eat them and I've found out my Diabetes is in remission and come off my meds and I don't want to go back there so it's how it has to be.

Well I'm seriously resisting the temptation following a scary 'free NHS health check' which showed high blood pressure and way too much extra weight. I was borderline for being put on hypertension medication but I said no, I wanted to manage this and bring the BP down. So I'm on a very careful diet now and doing more exercise. They've given me 3 months to turn things around, and change my lifestyle. I'm going to beat this!

Whenever I hear those words, "I have no willpower," I think back to a personal development course we were sent on for work, run by the Pacific Institute of Chicago. I learned that everything in adult life is a choice I make and I am the person in control. I know it sounds harsh but actually you can resist temptation but, like tanith, you have to want to. While the pleasure of eating the seasonal treats is more important to you than the benefits of resisting, you won't stop. Think of it as a decision.

You decide to eat them. OR
You decide not to eat them. OR
You decide to limit them.

It's your choice. Simples!
(I love mince pies, pork pies, chocolates and other lovely things and I eat them in December but not on Tuesdays and Fridays when I'm fasting. That's my decision, my choice.)

By the way, I know there's an element of chance sometimes so don't come back at me with drunk drivers, homicidal maniacs, terrorist atrocities etc. It's a principle! ?

Well, 'twas my birthday yesterday. I received gifts from my family. From DD, Greek Delight, (like Turkish Delight, but better). From DD a box of Black Magic chocolates and from DH huge box of nougat. So much for me trying to lose my spare tyre.
As for mince pies and Christmas pastries, we are avoiding those as DH was told to cut out pastry due to hypertension. He hasn't much willpower, so I have to have it for both of us.
