Last night’s Aurora.....isn’t it beautiful?

Luckygirl Mon 19-Mar-18 14:03:28

Wow! - I so want to see this in real life!

But I too love where I live - wonderful views that lift the spirits on a bad day. But nothing as spectacular as that. Thank you for sharing it.

Lovely!
Where are you btw Shetland??

MissAdventure Mon 19-Mar-18 14:12:34

Absolutely beautiful! smile
I'm glad you live where you do, too. Thank you for sharing.

Mapleleaf Mon 19-Mar-18 14:13:04

That's beautiful, Katek.
My niece lives in Northumberland, in the countryside, so little light pollution, and she says she sometimes sees the aurora. I'd love to see it, but where we are there's far too much light pollution. We might be a bit too far South, too. ( Though we are in the North, if that makes sense)!

Katek Mon 19-Mar-18 14:21:38

Not quite as far north lemongrove-north east Scotland mainland.

gillybob Mon 19-Mar-18 14:34:41

Fabulous! Thank you for sharing Katek .

Do you think it has something to do with the recent solar radiation storm that was reported?

Katek Mon 19-Mar-18 15:03:48

Quite possibly gilly, it’s all to do with solar storms and charged particles I believe.

Lovely Kate. I live in Northumberland but before that, we lived in North Cumbria. We have often seen the Aurora Borealis. On one particularly clear night there was such a beautiful display that I went and woke my children. They watched in wonder and went to school the next day with quite a story to tell.

Granny23 Mon 19-Mar-18 15:15:08

Another one from last night, this time from the Isle of Barra. Unfortunately we only 'live' there 2/52 each year, but have seen the Aurora both there and at home in Central Scotland.

BBbevan Mon 19-Mar-18 15:25:37

How beautiful. We are off on a cruise next year , hopefully to see the Aurora Borealis. I hope it performs for us.
It must be wonderful to live where you can see it regularly.

Jalima1108 Mon 19-Mar-18 15:38:27

I'm glad I live where I do too kate for lots of different reasons but the views are not one of them!!

That is stunning - thank you for posting.

MissAdventure Mon 19-Mar-18 15:58:02

I would love to see the lights in person. One day, maybe..

Marydoll Mon 19-Mar-18 16:07:15

Oh, thanks Paddyann I haven't been on the Maid of the Loch since I was a wee child.

I have just seen this! What a coincidence.

Thanks Katek,
We were overcast last night but the Northern Lights always lift my spirits and I just finished looking at pictures of last night's show from all over on the BBC website. Some people in the west also saw the narrow purple arc light termed Steve. Fantastic.

farview Mon 19-Mar-18 17:54:49

Thank you both both for sharing that stunning sight with us.On my bucket list for sure..

morethan2 Mon 19-Mar-18 18:57:29

I’ll never see it here in Kentsad but there are still times when I count my blessing as I drive down this green and pleasant land. Thank you for posting,do it again

Grannybags Mon 19-Mar-18 21:56:24

Wow brilliant picture! Thanks for sharing that with us. I was lucky enough to see the Aurora in Norway last year but to have it come to you must be amazing.

Katek Tue 20-Mar-18 11:31:02

So glad you all enjoyed the pic. I really do feel very fortunate.

Blinko Tue 20-Mar-18 12:01:28

How beautiful, G23. I've always wanted to go to the Islands and never got round to it. Time is running out!
