Lost and found

lost an earring ,it was a very expensive earring ,a present from my OH .We had been out at a birthday party and when I got home I discovered it was lost.I phoned the venue and got the cleaner to check through the bin and vacuum bag ..no luck .I was sad to lose it so OH bought me an identical pair.
Fast forward over 2 years ,we decided to redo the kitchen and there on the top of a wall cabinet that had about 2 inches of clearance from the ceiling was my earring! I have no idea how it got there ,I was very glad though that I hadn't thrown out the other of the pair.

Some friends of ours lost the only key to the back door of their new house - luckily while it was actually locked. About a year later their son was turning over the far end of his garden, preparing a vegetable patch. It was the first time he had dug this part of the garden, a previously untamed area on a brand new housing estate about two miles from his parents' home. As he dug, the spade met something metallic sounding and he reached down to find..... his parents' back door key. He never did fathom how on earth it got there!

I'm slightly freaked by both these stories.

I lost a ham sandwich.

It was my lunch for the first day back at work after the Christmas holidays. I was rushing round getting all my stuff together and when it came to going out the door - my ham sandwich had disappeared!

No time to search at that moment but in the evening I looked everywhere. No ham sandwich.

It turned up the next year, shrivelled and hard as a rock in the box of Xmas decorations........

My engagement ring is an amethyst and two small diamonds.
I have lost and found all three stones and one of them twice, although I knew roughly where they were , on all four occasions the fact that I found them were incredible.
Amethyst lost in house, found in bottom of fridge a year later (note to self, clean fridge more often)
Diamond lost while cleaning customer bathroom, said customer saw it while sitting on the loo( my mums only comment was that at least customer knew I cleaned behind the toilet)
Diamond lost while hoovering out my car, emptied full hoover bag and found it.
Diamond lost at a wedding, could have been anywhere but tried the toilets, found on the floor but also all over the floor was someone's broken sparkly necklace so the floor was littered with 'diamonds'.
So lucky each time and please note these are small diamonds and once out of the clasp are quite dull.

Meno your story reminds me of when I lost a stone from my engagement ring. It is a diamond flanked by two sapphires. It was a 70s style with a high setting and I was always having to get it repaired. The last time the jeweller repaired it, he said it would be almost impossible to match the sapphires if I ever lost one.
It was my birthday and I went to pick up a takeaway. As I came out the shop, I noticed one of the sapphires was missing. My daughter and I searched all out of the shop, my car, the driveway etc. and no stone. I was distraught.
A colleague had given me a bottle of cava as a birthday present, so I decided to drink it. The next morning, I was putting the bottle in the recycling bin and the sapphire was stuck to the bottle. . How it got there, I don't know. The only thing I can think of, is that when my friend gave me the gift, the stone fell into the gift bag.
I too got a new setting, to make sure I didn't lose it again.

DH lost one of our house key. Six months later he found it inside a shoe

Then there was the laundry detergent that turned up in the fridge, though admittedly OH 'found' it before I even realized I had lost it

So glad you found your stone too Mary, it really was a horrible feeling each time but I hate not wearing it as it's so pretty and the amethyst was my grandmothers in a brooch she gave me, but would never have worn it so added it to my engagement ring which was tiddly as we were poor then!

We lost DH’s wedding ring when he had to take it off due to arthritic fingers. It started off in a small box on his dressing table and ended up inside a box of waxing strips in my chest of drawers. I very nearly threw them away as I had had them ages and not used them, until I heard something rattling in the box!!

My GS, then aged 8, gave me a pair of earrings out of the blue. He'd spent his pocket money , £2, on them and I really treasured them, but one went missing. I hunted for them for weeks, always looking down as I went around the garden but no luck. Two years later, I was getting a little artificial Christmas tree out of storage, and the earring was hooked on one of the branches. That was indeed a Happy Christmas.

I also lost the diamond from my solitaire engagement ring. We had been out for a meal and after visiting the loo, discovered the loss. I searched everywhere, even one of the staff helping me, crawling along the carpet. Later when I got home I found it in my jacket pocket, such relief, I then had the setting renewed and made stronger.

We once lost a hamster ( a dead one) it had been put into a bag in the garage for when we had time for a burial, but a week later it had vanished, no hamster and no bag come to that.We never solved that mystery.
We did however lose a live hamster, I was cleaning his cage, DS was playing with hamster when it leapt off the bed and vanished.We spent hours searching the house, gave up, went back into sons bedroom and there it was sitting on the bookcase watching us, being a golden colour it was next to a golden coloured book which is why we never saw it the first time.Small son had been sobbing so we were all very happy to see it ( damned thing!)

Not me but DS, he lost the remote for the music system in the lounge. The whole family looked for the remote, even upturning the sofa and cutting away some of the fabric underneath. After a while DS contacted the manufacturer and obtained a replacement remote only to have the system fried by a lightning strike.
DS and DIL decided to have kitchen decorated while all the electricals were being replaced, lo and behold the remote turned up on top of a kitchen cupboard about 20cm from the ceiling.
I think DS had placed it there out of the reach of GC and completely forgot but he is still denying it.

Bathsheba I got the idea for this thread from a BBC Southern Counties Radio show I listen to most night whilst nodding off to sleep. I also use a lot of their Games ideas such as the Chemist Shop and the Department store, even though there has been criticism of too many Games, it's just a bit of fun.

I did lose my wedding ring at the local theatre, they were very good and did a thorough search for me with no results. I was so upset. The next day I went to fill the washing machine and my wedding ring was clanking in the base of the drum.

Off the point but, can I recommend the book ‘ The Keeper of Lost Things’, an enjoyable read and perhaps where some of the things have gone! ?

My friend lost her purse, but KNEW that the shifty looking fellow who sat next to her in the train station had taken it out of her bag. Polis were called, and a description of the ‘ thief’ was given.All cards were cancelled.

Fast forward two days, and guess what was found in the freezer?

I wish I had.

Years so I put some jewellery in an ' odd place' before going on holiday.

It was that 'odd' I still have not found where to this day.

We lost a piece of our Grandsons floor puzzle, it was kept under the chair my Mum used (she moved in with us for the last 4months of her life). She loved to watch him do his puzzles. We searched the lounge and toy boxes, my cleaners kept an eye out for it. About 6months after her death Mr G was on the floor doing said puzzle and low and behold all the pieces were there. I think Mum had been playing a joke on us all!!!

Those of you who have found things, could you possibly tell me where the key to our patio for is? Lost 3 years ago after putting it on a safe place.

That should be patio door !

When DS was about 10 years old, DH & I took him sledging on a nearby hilly field. After a long, cold afternoon, we trudged home to get warm. But the keys to the house couldn't be found in anyone's pockets. We had no choice but to smash a window and break in cost a fortune to replace. Many months later, DS went camping with his friends to the same hilly field. As they hammered the tent pegs into the ground, they found a bunch of keys. They were ours.

Last year I lost my very expensive watch awarded to me by the company I work for for 10 years service. I'd had it in my bag and knew I'd been to the jewellers to see if they could replace the battery as it wasn't working. Rang the jewellers but it wasn't there and could only think someone had taken it from my handbag standing in the queue at the post office the same afternoon. Totally devastated and even posted on the local lost and found site. Several weeks later I decided I needed to put the bag of artificial flowers away which had been sitting on the dining chair for ages. Tipped the bag up and out fell my watch! No idea how it got in there.

I also lost a set of keys years ago including my car keys, the house keys and garage key. After hunting everywhere for them and retracing my steps I gave up and had to have new ones cut. Two years later we were decorating and had to take the top off the wall unit to move it - there were the keys right at the back of the small cubby hole underneath. Weird how these things disappear!
