My idea of culture isn’t really listening to a German chap speaking/singing with perfect diction, but, hey ho each to his own.

For me, nothing soothes the troubled soul like the music of Beethoven, especially his piano music.

Rufus I seem to remember, when you first posted on GN, that I tried to offer a friendly word of advice.
I referred to a poster who made himself very unpopular with his rather tasteless and salacious comments ( the aforementioned 'bloke') and said that if you avoid that level of "humour" you'd be welcome on GN. So far so good on that score.
I also suggested that you should avoid patronising us.

Well OP, I'm with you on this one. When I saw that thread on knickers, I fainted clean away! I'm very glad I didn't see the one on "boobs and tits" because that would have been too much for my laydeee like sensibilities. It's quite shocking what the older generation get up to these days isn't it? Next thing you know they'll be riding motorbikes, wearing trendy clothes and whispers having sex.

for nice laid back 30's style I like Stacey Kent and her fabulous saxophonist husband Jim Tomlinson ,Currently listening to folk by a band called Folky Macfolkface ,good new songs ,written by the band .Later I may listen to some of the wonderful Eric Bibb, a bit of blues/gospel/soul/rock and roll .Whatever floats your boatof course .Enjoy your german man .Just off the turntable is Hugh Masakela who I was fortunate to see live and meet in Edinburgh.The world is a sadder place without him since his recent death

Since I heard the dashingly handsome German tenor on Last night of the Proms , I listen to him almost daily on U-tube where he has dozens of 5 minute films about him, singing or talking in German, French, Italian or English.

His name is Jonas Kaufmann

Like you I enjoy a whole variety of music callgirl but Runrig reaches places that other music just doesn’t touch!

You're right about the Opera House icon being cultural, but you've omitted all the other icons.

Aussie football, Soccer, Cricket (not so just now!), Swimming, Netball, Hockey, Tennis etc. etc.
Plenty of culture there, of a sort, and extremely popular.
