Very lazy baggage (me)

We have friends we haven't seen for ages coming for lunch tomorrow.
I have just been to M&S and bought everything ready made - except for garlic bread, and I'm only making that myself because M&S didn't have any frozen, and I couldn't be bothered to go and look anywhere else.

Might add that the temp on the thermometer outside our kitchen window was over 40 deg this morning (OK, in the sun) so the heat is a handy excuse - far too hot for cooking.

That's not lazy, you are merely being sensible. Your guests are coming for your company not to test your culinary skills. This way you will be able to relax and enjoy their company, jolly good plan.

Well I think that’s lovely, spend time with your friends it’s you they’re coming to see,

No, not lazy, just sensible! And you're contributing to the commercial life of the country. wink

I agree, more time to spend with friends and less stress, go for it.

Good call in my book grin

I'm of the Helen Mirren persuasion from Calendar Girls "and for everything else there's Marks and Spencers"

Enjoy your lunch wine

Well I'm a full time lazy baggage. I certainly don't apologise for it and neither should you!

Ilovecheese Tue 26-Jun-18 14:28:22

And you have done a good deed because M & S needs all the help it can get.

My best friend is a wonderful inventive cook and so relaxed when entertaining ?. I would not try to compete. M&S for me ? Glad to hear I'm not alone.

OldMeg Tue 26-Jun-18 15:53:21

Can I come for lunch please?

glammanana Tue 26-Jun-18 18:36:34

M&S always my first port of call if we are having guests and always for us of a week-end with their "Dine In" why spend time in the kitchen when you don't need to.

JustALaugh Tue 26-Jun-18 18:42:14

I can't fault you! I cooked a roast dinner last night (madness, in this heat), but it's been salad with chicken and pasta tonight.

Mapleleaf Tue 26-Jun-18 19:47:46

Hope your lunch goes well tomorrow. I don’t blame you in the slightest for buying in food ready prepared. It will mean you will have more time to be with your friends, which is more important than shaving away in the kitchen. ?.
Enjoy. ?

Mapleleaf Tue 26-Jun-18 19:48:37

Slaving away, not shaving away!! ?

Can always remember reading an article about serving food 'cooked elsewhere' i.e. ready meals to guests. The highbrow journalist felt that it was perfectly acceptable as long as it was decent quality. I think the argument went something like, well you have provided a welcoming environment for your guests, provided food (and drink) entertained them and been glad of their company....they should be jolly happy!

Witzend, thanks for your post. It's helped me decide that M&S will provide the food to feed our adult children and ourselves whilst we watch the match on Thursday. The aim is to exhaust the toddlers with lots of water play in the shady party of the garden during the day bath bed sleep then we eat and watch the match at the same time. I know I know, there's a flaw somewhere (but not in the raiding M&S part of the plan)
