Havn't paid road tax E mail ?

Oh gosh, that’s a nice thing to wake up to!!

Have you found proof? My first thought was to check when the tax is due on the tax disc!! This automation thing is all very well but paper has it’s advantages, I didn’t know you could pay by phone.

I would try logging into the DVLA before responding to the e-mail - I don't think we have tax discs any more. If you've paid it (either online or over the phone) they generally send you a confirmation e-mail so do a search through your mailbox and check your bank account too. The reminder could be a scam.

Willow , many thanks for the DVLA idea , within seconds I found out that it's not due until December and my insurance is not due until May . Phew ! The alarming E mail demand was a scam !!

Oh no ! I'm getting confused with the changing world , it's spinning too fast for me . But that's what scammers are preying on , daft old panicking dinosaurs like me !

I always save all emails that confirm renewals like car tax, tv licence etc, also all insurance renewals so that if there is a query I can immediately find the confirmation documentation to show/email/ or confirm at any time.

I can also remember all the months for the renewal of key items like this so that I can chase them up because of the problems non-renewal can cause.

I haven't come across that particular scam, the main rule is never never ever click on a link in any email.
Check out the issue in your usual way, website, phone, post or just check your bank account.
You always get a reminder for road tax so that you can get the car MOTd and insured before you tax it - you can't tax it without an MOT the systems are linked

I pay my car tax by monthly direct debit. No annual shock and outgoing payments show up among online bank transactions. I receive an annual letter notifying me of direct debit payments. My car service centre is quick to remind me when a MOT is due!

Being able to check that direct debits are being paid to the DVLA regularly would help to protect me from worrying if I should receive a scam mail.

It's a scam! There is also one doing the rounds purporting to be from HMRC. A quick way to check is to click on the senders name it will usually show a very odd address. Official organisations would never contact you in this way.
It is not a pleasant feeling though and must have been a bad start to the day.

Forward the message (without clicking onto any link) to [email protected] This is the central police unit which deal with internet scams. They may well be able to close the scam down, and if not, warn others about it.

DOW don't be so hard on yourself. Technology is moving fast for some of us but at least you investigated and didn't respond by parting with any cash. I have a little email folder where I transfer all my annual payments to immediately I've done them. Any memory prompts are a bonus for me. It's sometimes hard to transfer from a paper world to an online one.

It's a scam. Check your bank statement back to when you think you paid it. I regularly get emails stating I'm due tax refund/pay pal purchase query etc. Don't ever respond to emails requesting your bank info.

I recently received that email too. When I clicked on the sender it clearly wasn't from the dvla. So many of these scammers! Karma will get them in the end!

I had this too. Giveaway for me was that it was sent to a work email that DVLA would never have had. Earlier in the year I had similar emails - i.e. heading looking authentic - telling me my tax rebate was ready and I should apply below!

DO NOT reply to this text as I'm sure it's a scam. Type in DVLA.gov.uk and make sure the website you go on is .org which is the government site. On the first page is a list of options and one is 'Check if a vehicle is taxed and has an MOT' and this should put your mind at rest.

We've had two vehicles due to be taxed recently and we still got a reminder through the post.

It is possible to check this on the government site. No tax discs for ages on which planet are you living?

I keep a spread sheet of monthly outgoings, so I can quickly check when something is due to be paid or has been paid. I do receive a notification from the bank of what is to be paid each month via direct debit, but it takes less time to check a spread sheet on the computer than go through the bank statements.

These e-mail scams are a nuisance. Some of them are so transparent that it is easy to see that they are scams - I recently got one purporting to come from the tax authorities but as it was written in French and I live in Denmark, that one was easy to see through. Others really do take you in, don't they?

I am really annoyed with Microsoft who don't have a contact formula on their homepage as other companies do, so you can report scams without having to phone up about them.

Check your card statement, could easily be a scam.

I had the same email. I checked online (www.gov.uk>check-vehicle-tax) and my road tax wasn't due! It's a scam. I deleted the email!

Don't click on the email addresses just hover the mouse over it and you can see the hyperlink with the address - if you click it you show your email address is valid and open yourself up to more scam emails.
