About a year ago I opened a thread about the pseudonoms that we choose to put on Gransnet.
The freshly scented Lemongrove
The mysterious Maggiemaybe ... maybe, maybe not!
Baggs I had such an image of you until I saw your lovely picture on another thread.
MawBroon such a name of authority and we certainly respect your words.
Anniebach you must be little, yet you are not!
And I could go on and on but i won't.
There were some lovely answers and now that we have a lot of new members with equally intriguing "nom-de-plumes", I thought I would ask again what made you choose yours ?
Do you escape into a fantasy world (BlueSapphire what magic that conjures up) , or are you practical (like me) and just put your name?
Please share.

Oh Callgirl1 you have just spoiled the illusion.
Fishnet tights and an abandoned air!

I always thought I felt younger than my age but life caught up with me a few years ago. I was feeling a little pessimistic when I first registered. Sometimes wonder about changing my user name but I have got used to it - and I can remember it!

MawBroon Thu 10-Jan-19 17:09:58

MawBroon was a nod to my Scottish Heritage and to the Sunday Post for whom my father started writing while still in his teens.

Day6 Thu 10-Jan-19 17:29:45

I am (in 'real life') known by six variations of my forename - different people from different times in my life call me slightly different things and always have. I conceived my username on a Saturday, so I became Day6, (I was going to call myself SaturdayGran but it was a bit much to type!) - and I have been asked if it's a biblical reference too!

I wish I had introduced myself to OH by one of the shortened forms of my name, but I gave him my full moniker when I met him, which I am not fond of, and he uses it. confused

MawBroon
Just out of interest what does the Broon part mean?
I imagine you striding about in the Highlands brandishing a cormach!

travelsafar Thu 10-Jan-19 18:12:25

Mine came about when i had booked a trip to India and it was the furthest I had ever travelled.

Nannylovesshopping Thu 10-Jan-19 18:41:14

Because I do?

MawBroon Thu 10-Jan-19 18:45:44

Broon is Brown

kittylester Thu 10-Jan-19 18:46:05

Mine is a childhood nickname and my nearest city!

oldgaijin Thu 10-Jan-19 18:48:09

Some years ago, I stayed with my daughter who was working in Japan. She remarked that the locals didn't often see an old Gaijin (foreigner) so oldgaijin I have been since!

Blinko Thu 10-Jan-19 18:52:35

I'm loving all the explanations and wish I'd been more inventive with mine.

oldgaijin Thu 10-Jan-19 19:10:31

MawBroon...Iv'e just seen your picture on another thread and I imagined you as a battleaxe in a pinny, wielding a rolling pin...how wrong I was!

dragonfly46 Thu 10-Jan-19 19:17:31

I just love dragonflies and the year I was born. I use it for everything.

downtoearth Thu 10-Jan-19 19:46:26

Because I am

Doodle Thu 10-Jan-19 19:52:54

I was going to choose noodle but thought it made be sound a bit daft (probably more accurate that my eventual choice blush) so ended up with doodle.

Gagagran Thu 10-Jan-19 19:58:39

Mine is after my dear old Mum who had vascular dementia and as her memory got worse she used to say "Oh I'm going gaga". Hence Gagagran .

Katek Thu 10-Jan-19 19:58:48

I’m just boring.....abbreviation of my middle name and a random letter. I also forgot to put a fullstop in between! I suppose it could be taken as an ancient Egyptian pharaoh!

FarNorth Thu 10-Jan-19 20:06:43

Day6 did you never have an opportunity to mention to your DH that you'd prefer a different version of your name?

DiscoGran Thu 10-Jan-19 20:49:11

Mine is because i boogie around the kitchen to the radio. Keeps me fit!

Grannybags Thu 10-Jan-19 20:56:52

The bags bit is part of a family nickname for me. When I first became a Granny my brother phoned and said "Hello Grannybags" so it sort of stuck!

lemongrove Thu 10-Jan-19 21:16:25

My fragrance is Chanel No 5 Sue smile
For anyone who is interested, we stayed in a lovely lemon grove on the Amalfi Coast, and I do like a slice in my G&T.
Love the cat pics on here....more please!

Apricity Thu 10-Jan-19 21:33:18

I chose the name Apricity because it's an old word meaning the warmth of the sun in winter which is the way I feel about my life now. ?

lovingit Thu 10-Jan-19 21:47:25

chosen on a very good day

DanniRae Thu 10-Jan-19 21:55:22

I couldn't possibly say! blush

Lollin Thu 10-Jan-19 21:57:46

Enforced "laziness" brought me to Gransnet so when i decided to start posting i thought it described my state - lolling - but i accidentally missed off the g.
