I messaged a friend called Liz on fb and only realised once I had sent it that I had said 'hi lizard'.

Grannycupcake Mon 14-Jan-19 11:46:27

I've had lizard as well. Fortunately I spotted it. It was a guest who I hadn't met yet.

Im considering doing a proofreading course, as I seem to have an ability to spot errors very quickly, following working in a GP practice computerising patient medical records and hospital letters. I get kindle free books and some of the ' bloopers' Ive come across are hilarious. One I can remember is where the police found a body in the dessert. Reminded me of the jokes about elephants and custard.

You need this especially if you are speaking the message to be typed. I’m sure my phone deliberately turns some of my messages into garbage. E.g. my daughter, receiving this message, ‘Hope you’re feeding butter son’ texted back, Type it instead of saying it or check it Mum.
If you are doing a language course online you can lose lots of points by speaking the answer.

Once saw an ad advertising Cosmic surgery, special offer grin

So funny! My DIL's text bloopers are notorious - she's so bad that her phone has now 'learned' the spelling errors which compounds the problem - the messages are often so garbled they're indecipherable although her daughters usually know what she's trying to say grin

My daughter and I used to message each other using only predictive text, some of the results were hilarious.

In text my son (who was in the car with my husband, his dad) that I hated predictive text instead it came up as predictive sex!! Him and his dad fortunately had a good laugh. blush

My friend texted inviting me to lunch.
We were to be having vegetable lasagne with her home grown herpes grin

I have completed a proofreading/editing course and it's well worth the money.
I now proofread for a hotel chain and 2 publishing houses.
It's well paid and it can be very interesting, however, it's about much more than identifying spelling mistakes.

grandtanteJE65 Mon 14-Jan-19 15:19:38

In the days when WordPerfect was the most common text program on computers, one young woman I knew wrote in her resumé that she was proficient in WorldPerfect.

Rather unfortunate, as far from being a computer program WorldPerfect was one of the most commonly sold brands of condoms here.

Daisyboots Mon 14-Jan-19 15:42:39

I disable predictive text as soon as I get a new phone. Any spelling mistakes are my own due to fat fingers.

Spangles1963 Mon 14-Jan-19 17:15:01

A few months ago,my DD sent me a one word text that was meant to say 'OK'. Her phone changed it to 'Okehampton'. She'd never even heard of Okehampton. grin

These have all made me giggle. I remember seeing a Facebook post which was supposed to be text messages from parents to their adult children. I'm sure that some of them were made up, but I was crying with laughter while reading them.
I always check my messages before I send them, having seen some of the terrible mistakes in advertisements and other publications. I have little faith in a Company that can't spot it's own mistakes. Cathay Pacific not noticing that one of its planes had 'Cathay Paciic' on it springs to mind.

POGS Mon 14-Jan-19 18:15:16

I typed the word ' wellies' on an old computer and the spell checker put in ' willies ' and I never noticed until it was too late.

Legs55 Mon 14-Jan-19 18:38:21

POGS grin

Years and years ago, before we had technology to blame, someone in the company I worked for wrote to a client MEANING to say that the work they wanted done would "involve lengthy computations".

What they ACTUALLY wrote was that it would "involve lengthy copulations".

There was a queue grin grin
