Grandma70s Sun 07-Jul-19 09:20:13

I got 5. I was convinced camel hair brushes were made of badger hair.

Elegran Sun 07-Jul-19 09:39:02

No, Grandma70s that is/was a shaving brush.

Callistemon Sun 07-Jul-19 10:01:02

Yes - except that Q9 is a double trick question!

Chinese gooseberries aka kiwi fruit, do come from New Zealand now but they originated in China, they are not native to NZ.

(As DH would say, 'stop showing off, Calli')

Callistemon Sun 07-Jul-19 10:02:19

It's just another of those useless bits of information you acquire - why?

merlotgran Sun 07-Jul-19 10:06:41

There was only one I didn't know. The colour of a purple finch and even DH didn't know it.

EllanVannin Sun 07-Jul-19 10:26:41

I do remember struggling as a child when dad asked me " How many blue beans make five ". What a duffer !

Bathsheba Sun 07-Jul-19 10:41:25

Ahem, please Miss! <waves hand in the air>

Although Chinese Gooseberries are produced and marketed in New Zealand, as Kiwi Fruit, they originated in China. Well, according to Wiki, that is.... (And China produced 50% of the world total of kiwifruit in 2017)

History[edit]
Main article: Kiwifruit industry in New Zealand

Kiwifruit is native to north-central and eastern China.[1] The first recorded description of the kiwifruit dates to 12th century China during the Song dynasty.[8] As it was usually collected from the wild and consumed for medicinal purposes, the plant was rarely cultivated or bred.[9] Cultivation of kiwifruit spread from China in the early 20th century to New Zealand, where the first commercial plantings occurred.[1] The fruit became popular with British and American servicemen stationed in New Zealand during World War II, and was later exported, first to Great Britain and then to California in the 1960s.[1][6]

Oops sorry Callistemon, crossed posts - you beat me to it while I took ages to submit my comment blush

mcem Sun 07-Jul-19 10:43:02

Well done maw.
You just haven't quite managed to quell those teaching instincts, have you?
Must admit I' m guilty too. Yesterday, watching a fairly typical (but enjoyable) kids' film with DGD, we had deep and meaningful discussions about Romeo and Juliet and then on anthropomorphism!
She asked me to write the word so that she could sleep on it and it would get into her brain!
Haven't yet set a test!

Callistemon Sun 07-Jul-19 10:54:59

Re Chinese gooseberries/kiwi fruit - thanks Bathsheba!!

That was the kind of question that always got me into trouble at school because I just knew I was right (technically) and would argue the toss stand my ground and either get sent outside or made to stand in the corner.
grin

Bathsheba Sun 07-Jul-19 11:04:01

Haha, sounds like me Callistemon grin

Callistemon Sun 07-Jul-19 11:09:55

If only we'd had Google too, Bathsheba grin

callgirl1 Sun 07-Jul-19 17:58:40

Shamefully, I only managed to get 4 right, bujt then I didn`t know that Chinese gooseberries were Kiwi fruit!

Callistemon Sun 07-Jul-19 18:09:02

And originate in China!
