The local pages were edited by volunteer local editors. At first, Gransnet helped a little, but the remit was limited (not much scope for individuality) and there was very little support from members generally. There were already groups of members meeting locally for coffee or lunch, and making friends, (and also groups which crossed local boundaries), and sites with a more narrow focus didn't seem to appeal. After a while, Gransnet lessened the scope of the editors even further and many (most?) of the editors left. There are only a few of the local sites left which still have anyone actively editing and promoting them, and most people now only use the main central site.
