There is a report today that some vegans broke into a chicken farm in Spain and separated the cocks from the hens as they "didn't want the hens to be raped" and say the hens don't give consent! They then proceeded to break the eggs as "they belong to the chickens"

I can't help thinking that stunts like this do nothing to help the vegan cause

Really? I’ve never known cockerels to be kept in with commercial egg laying hens.

Anja Wed 04-Sep-19 07:52:22

Just read that article. There were two of them. Having raised chicken for years I can just imagine these two idiots chasing round trying to catch cockerels ????? and then, I wonder, where did they put them?

Peonyrose Wed 04-Sep-19 07:59:17

They should be locked up under medical supervision, they are not tight in the head I'm afraid.

Peonyrose Wed 04-Sep-19 07:59:39

Sorry tight in the head.

Sometimes stupidity just knows no bounds, why go to such extreme lengths to try and indoctrinate others ?

NanaandGrampy Wed 04-Sep-19 08:36:51

What is it with people these days?

What happened to choice?

If you want to be vegan that's your choice and I'm fine with that.

If I want to be a carnivore that's MY choice and I should be allowed to do that.

Why must there always be this desire to force those who make different choices to all be the same??

That’s so funny sunseeker ?

There are many matings in the animal kingdom which look like rape.
Seen from a human point of view, they are very violent. Look at Elephant seals and ducks, which can drown if jumped by several drakes.

Hard though this is to accept, it's the way it's worked for many thousands of years and we should not anthropomorphise creatures which have their own way of continuing their species.

I hope they are working as hard to stop the appalling cruelty to donkeys, bulls and dogs in their country.

sunseeker Wed 04-Sep-19 09:25:19

Yes BradfordLass72 you don't see them at the awful running of the bulls or turning up trying to stop bullfights - now in that I would support them.

crystaltipps Wed 04-Sep-19 09:31:44

There are plenty of protesters at bull fighting and the like. Please don’t think this minor news story is accurate or typical. Might as well say meat eaters gas billions of male chick every day.

Daisymae Wed 04-Sep-19 10:14:52

I agree crystal. There are people at all ends of the spectrum. If only male chicks were all gassed.

WadesNan Wed 04-Sep-19 10:20:23

crystal Of course this action was stupid and carried out by just a couple of extremists, but I agree with the OP that it does nothing for their cause.

yggdrasil Wed 04-Sep-19 12:08:45

How do they know the hens don't consent? Do they speak chicken? Or you could just realise a hen that does not 'consent' will not stand still for the cock wink

A vegan in Australia went to the Supreme Court because neighbours either side of her were cooking meat on their BBQ's and she could smell it. She could also smell cigarette smoke and objected to the sound of children playing basketball. She'd told the court that everything was deliberate.

A right barrel of laughs she sounds too !

I had an unexpected hatch of some chicks and for a time had some young cockerels and pullets. Cockerels were ok with Dad, occasionally had a bit of a punch up but nothing v serious. I got rid of them though when they got to sexual maturity, the old hens basically told them to get lost but the pullets were not so savvy, and as they were not v experienced managed to pull their feathers out of the back of their necks, to hold on with Technically it's not rape because cocks don't actually have one, unlike drakes, sexual assault yes. It not actual rape. My old cock has calmed down a lot and doesn't bother them that often.

The cockerels did go to garden homes, not to a Pot btw
