....the mere title of the Paul McCarney book they want to give away - Hey Grandude! - sets my teeth on edge! No way would I ever want or buy it for Gdcs!

Witzend Tue 08-Oct-19 07:09:35

Sorry, McCartney, of cours.

Sara65 Tue 08-Oct-19 07:11:04

I love Paul McCartney, but I’m definitely with you on this one Witzend!

BradfordLass72 Tue 08-Oct-19 07:18:00

What the flippin' 'eck is a Grandude?

And if it alludes to someone with grandsprogs, shouldn't it be 'Granddude'?

Teeth on edge even writing this grin

Forgive me!! <bows, scrapes>

Nortsat46 Tue 08-Oct-19 07:25:06

Witzend I also agree.
The book and the competition have been very noticeable on GN for a while now and my eye keeps trying to avoid reading the word, because it makes me cringe.

I am a committed Beatles fan too...

Witzend Tue 08-Oct-19 08:48:47

Oh, so glad it's not just me!
And as a fully paid-up grumpy old pedant, BradforLass, I do agree that if he really must use that word, it should have a double d.

Grannybags Tue 08-Oct-19 09:56:21

Oh yes. Cringe, cringe, cringe

When I first read it I assumed it was to do with Hey Jude.....then I looked again!

Amagran Tue 08-Oct-19 10:04:45

Cringe, cringe, cringe indeed! We really need a cringe emoji!

Much as I like McCartney and the Beatles, I couldn't touch a book with that title with a bargepole. I very much doubt that my GCs would be impressed, either.

harrigran Tue 08-Oct-19 13:40:54

If I said Paul McCartney to my GC they would say "who ?"
I wish he would just quietly retire and disappear, his voice went about forty years ago.

Marmight Tue 08-Oct-19 13:54:51

I was just thinking the same. Why do all these ‘celebs’ (and their offspring)have to cash in on anything that’s going? PM was/is my least fav Beatle. Gives me the shudders. Nothing sadder than an ageing Wasabee who keeps going and I don’t just mean PM. Plenty of them about.

KatyK Tue 08-Oct-19 14:57:20

I love Paul too but why do they all have to write books? He said one of his grandchildren said 'Hey Grand Dude' to him which gave him the idea.

Sara65 Tue 08-Oct-19 15:16:19

Katyk

Well in my opinion it should have been left as an idea. Like you though, I still think he’s lovely,

KatyK Tue 08-Oct-19 15:19:44

Yes Sara I agree. Sometimes I think for goodness sake, how much money do you need?

GabriellaG54 Tue 08-Oct-19 19:03:09

Of course

JackyB Tue 08-Oct-19 21:47:04

I know it was a typo but I am still shaking with laughter at "Wasabee".

Witzend Wed 09-Oct-19 05:48:10

I thought it was a typo too at first, but now I'm not so sure. At any rate, 'wasabee' is now a brilliant new addition to my vocabulary.

Still, at least it wasn't yet another 'sleb' cook book from yet another new 'expert' in 'clean' or healthy eating. It might be a nice change if one of them produced a 'Shameless Puds' or some such.

Marmight Wed 09-Oct-19 05:52:09

No, it Wasn’t a typo ?

Sara65 Wed 09-Oct-19 06:42:56

This is a terrible time of year for books, when every Z list celebrity writes a book about their glittering career/traumatic upbringing, or a cook book, fitness book, or sometimes just try their hand (or somebody else’s hand) at a rubbish novel!
But I think I might treat myself to John Humphries memoirs.

BradfordLass72 Wed 09-Oct-19 06:52:59

Witzend a friend of mine wrote a cookbook which encourages the eating delicious desserts without this false guilt people are so hung up on.

Some of the recipes are low-fat but I've tasted her cooking and you wouldn't know.

It's called, 'Never Trust a Skinny Cook.' smile
