Christmas Hamper

If you can afford it, Fortnum and Mason hampers are utterly fabulous. My Dad sent us one each year for several years, and we loved sharing out the goodies inside. I agree with geekesse about F&M - they're very classy! If your budget doesn't stretch quite that far, Marks & Spencer marksandspencer.com and Waitrose waitrose.com both have good quality alternatives.

Another vote for F & M . You can bespoke the contents too - I did an afternoon tea themed one recently for a birthday present .

I love the F & M hampers my son sends me there are lots to choose from or as has been said you can choose what’s in them.

I got given some items out of a F&M hamper, son's girlfriend was presented with one at work from some client or other, she didn't really want it, split the contents between her family and ours. They brought some items with them when they came for Christmas. I was grateful and then underwhelmed when we tried said items, lemony biscuits, nice blue tin, but the biscuits weren't anything special, the Christmas pudding was okish, brandy sauce quite horrible, and relish, loose leaf tea, nice tea caddy, can't remember much about the tea. F&M hampers are incredibly expensive, but if I were to buy a hamper, not sure I'd get one from there, maybe Betty's of Harrogate

However, the F&M bits and pieces did at least evoke memories, I worked very near Jermyn Street at one time, Fortnums is a lovely shop to wander around in, quite magical at Christmas time. Naice for afternoon tea especially

I can remember an F&M hamper in the home years ago and also remember mum taking out a jar of peaches in brandy and hiding it as we had guests at Christmas but she wasn't going to share those.
The basket that it arrived in was used for toys.

British Hamper have vegan options and deliver worldwide so they're handy for far flung relatives. For those close to home I find it easy enough to make up hampers, more cost-effective.

I make up my own hamper for my dd and SiL as I know exactly what they like the most. I start with their favourite champagne and Port, Xmas cake, then shortbread, half a dozen cheeses, my handmade Xmas chutney, 3 lots of crackers, mince pies, large pork pie, chocolates, Elizabeth Shaw mints, and a couple of chocolate reindeer for the dgc.

Thank you all so much, you lovely grans, you've pointed me towards options I never knew about and will be researching ASAP (pity there aren't any options tasting, I'm quite far away...).
