It's so sad when special people disappear. Any news on the recently departed?

kittylester Sat 16-Nov-19 19:08:30

Are you thinking of a seance gfp?

lemongrove Sat 16-Nov-19 19:11:11

So, grapefruitpip having had a thread deleted which talked about an ex GN member, you immediately start up another one!
Special people? Presume this is yet more sarcasm.

Greenfinch Sat 16-Nov-19 19:21:30

Try to pm them if you are so concerned.

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 19:23:34

Oh, come off it, Lemongrove.

GabriellaG54 was hounded off GN, because if she posted to say that night followed day, a good half of the people who read the post would disagree and accuse her of being smug and arrogant for holding such a view.

Do you want Grapefruitpip to be hounded off GN as well?

MamaCaz Sat 16-Nov-19 19:26:05

I've seen many threads where members ask if anyone knows where a previously regular poster has gone, when they haven't posted for a while.
I wasn't aware that it broke any rules on Gransnet, but if it does, there must be a lot more threads that need deleting!

lemongrove Sat 16-Nov-19 19:30:18

No, actually you come off it Amagram .....no poster, either past or present should be talked about after they have left the forum, especially having a thread started up about them.
I don’t think that Gabriella was hounded off GN ( at least I hope not) but starting threads in order to talk about anyone
Is just not on.

Whitewavemark2 Sat 16-Nov-19 19:31:22

Thread police alert!!

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 19:34:36

Read GabriellaG54's last message on GN. She left because she was sick of the vile comments she kept receiving. To my mind, they amounted to bullying.

lemongrove Sat 16-Nov-19 19:35:22

It’s GN rules not to have threads rubbishing present or past members.
Saying lovely things about them is fine of course.....so let’s hope that is what happens.

Farmor15 Sat 16-Nov-19 19:41:43

I think people join a forum like this, stay for a while, then perhaps get bored and move on. I used to be very active on a forum related to a health issue, but after a while felt I had nothing more to learn or contribute.

It’s actually a bit insulting to other members if one or two are singled out for mention. As Greenfinch said, you could always pm them.

grapefruitpip Sat 16-Nov-19 19:54:22

lovely lovely things

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 19:58:31

I pm'd GabriellaG54 immediately after she said she was leaving, but she did not reply.

I enjoyed her posts. I did not always agree with them and sometimes they seemed a little harsh, but she spoke her mind and was very kind at times. I suspect that her politics were diametrically opposed to mine, but that didn't matter. I respect her enormously for her honesty and sincerity.

Yes her posts were controversial, but sometimes we need to have our cosy, predictable and mealy-mouthed views challenged. They could have opened up some interesting and valuable debate, but all too often they just resulted in diatribes against her.

I miss you, GabriellaG54, and if you are reading this, please come back, even if under a new name.

lemongrove Sat 16-Nov-19 20:01:39

I agree Amagram .....but even if other posters don’t, the least they can do is not to say anything derogatory about any ex member of GN, who may be around and reading the posts.

Fennel Sat 16-Nov-19 20:04:23

Well in my naivete I thought this thread was going to be about contacting old school friends blush.

kittylester Sat 16-Nov-19 20:04:25

gfp, you are quite new I believe so which old friends are you missing?

Jane10 Sat 16-Nov-19 20:11:49

Hmmm maybe gfp is Gabriella in her new incarnation. hmm

SirChenjin Sat 16-Nov-19 20:13:32

Paddyann has been very quiet recently - if she's got any sense she'll be holed up in IndyRef2HQ praying for BJ to continue in his quest to destroy the UK.

Grandmama Sat 16-Nov-19 20:14:40

I've not been on because Gransnet disappeared from my inbox. Didn't realise for a couple of weeks that it wasn't arriving, contacted Gransnet who mentioned difficulties with btinternet. Still not receiving it so have to remember to log on to read the forums. And so have only just found out that Gabriella G54 has left sad. So sorry. If you're reading this Gabriella, I liked your posts and I shall miss them.

Bellanonna Sat 16-Nov-19 20:16:29

I haven’t seem KatyK for a bit, but then I haven’t got time to read everything. Hope she’s ok

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 20:17:21

Part of me is pleased to see people springing to Gabriella's defence for a change - it rarely happened when she was on GN.

But the other part of me can't help feeling that referencing people by characteristics that they themselves have described is scarcely derogatory.

It would be nice if overtly derogatory remarks about members of GN, past or present, were avoided. Full stop.

We can argue and disagree with each other, but still be respectful and have a good discussion. Much as we're doing here - I hope! wink

Jane10 Sat 16-Nov-19 20:22:44

I wondered where paddyann was too. I suspect she's out canvassing for her beloved (and my detested and despised) SNP. Either that or in the queue for a seat at the Alex Salmond trial.

Marydoll Sat 16-Nov-19 20:33:35

I had a PM from Gabriella, saying that she needed a break from GN, due to all the unpleasantness.
So no need for any more speculation.
Who knows, her account may still be active and she is reading these posts.

I agree with Amagran: whether we agree or disagree with a poster, we should still be respectful and civil to each other.

grapefruitpip Sat 16-Nov-19 20:55:14

I had no idea one of out friends was taking a break. didn't know a damn thing about it.

Amagran Sat 16-Nov-19 21:00:41

Thank you for the reassurance, Marydoll. If you are still in touch with Gabriella, please pass on to her all the good wishes which have been expressed on this thread, and tell her we miss her - for all the right reasons.
