WAITROSE

I watched that programme and found it interesting. Waitrose is the furthest supermarket from me so I rarely shop there,
but I do buy a few items from M & S each week. Unfortunately I am sometimes tempted by their strawberry compote trifle and get through a family size in a couple of days!

shysal - we also enjoyed the programme, very informative and tbh I would never have said their prices matched or were similar to M & S until I watched the programme. It was interesting and not sure if it's co-incidental or not that the house prices are much higher in an area where there is a Waitrose. It's just a pity there are very few (4, I think) stores in Scotland, that's our problem up here. However I'm hoping for a successful delivery this Thursday.

There isn’t a Waitrose here oop in my grim northern town and M&S in my town closed years ago. But I have heard about this Ocado shopping being very good. I think they do Waitrose things.
I await with interest. I do buy online but not groceries. I shlep to Morrison’s every fortnight. If it saves me that I’m in.

I thought it was interesting as well, I shop between the two and would have guessed that the prices were comparable.
If for some reason I had to choose between the two, I’d probably go M&S

Do people really do a 'weekly shop' in M&S??

I pop in there occasionally and may buy a cake or a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine or a bag of prawns. But a whole week's shop?

They don't seem to stock what I would call 'real food' that I buy in my main food shop. I'm talking about joints of meat, fresh fish, real vegetables (not pre-washed and cut up). Added to which, they tend to be in town centres, how do you get the shopping home (or do you all go to the out-of-town ones?)

I hardly ever do food shopping in M&S and then only if there's something else I need. Waitrose is just down the road - practically my corner shop. It's easy to drop in there when I'm going to or from somewhere else. I look for price reductions - Saturday afternoon is quite a good time to find them. The short distance from home makes it a good place to buy frozen items. But I have no intention of buying one of those horrible dragon toys!

I love Waitrose! I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for in life and this is never more true than with food.

It is said that whenever there is a food scare Waitrose attracts many more customers as people trust them.

I also like how the staff are partners who share in the profits

I don’t waste my money on designer clothes but I do believe in buying good quality food .

I watched it and have always been a fan of Waitrose, the nearest isn't very near though. Tbh the only time I buy food in M&S is when I have a hospital appointment in central London, it's my reward for fighting through traffic and paying 20 quid to park. The hospital shop is an M&S food hall. So usually just involves fruit and cakes so can't compare the two.

I used to shop on line with Ocado more than 10y ago. I loved the fact they used to have (?still) hourly time slots for delivery. I recommended them to several hospital doctors I worked with back in the day.

Now? I live in residential above commercial in the town centre in Urmston. SO convenient that Sainsbury’s down in the lift is my larder!

That said, I love Booths at Media City near Man Man Utd football ground (5 sets of traffic lights away).

I agree, quality food, cooked well is one of life’s pleasures!

It makes me think of that prayer (and very much count my blessings) ...

GrandmaKT, that was my reaction when I heard this problem. It would never occur to me to even try to do a 'proper' food shop in M&S.

I started shopping in Waitrose about 30 years ago when all the main supermarkets around methen began expanding even more and it was taking me longer and longer to do the usual weekly shop for a family of 4.

I then realised there was shopping precinct with a Waitrose locally, the Waitrose was much smaller ten the other big ones but big enough for me to get all I wanted - and it was 15 minutes quicker to shop there. There were also banks, chemists, newsagents, hairdressers and all the other shops one needs in the same location so that I could do all the shopping etc I needed in one lunchtime and be back in work on time.

When we moved to our current house the situation was replicated. All three small towns near us have a Waitrose in the town centre, where one weekly visit enables me to go to the supermarket and do almost any other shopping I want to do in one visit. The alternative is a couple of out of town huge supermarkets, which remain too big to shop in efficiently and require a separate journey to town for hair cuts, bankes etc.

There is an M&S food in another local town, it opened a few months ago, but it requires a special journey as it is not a town I usually use.

The food in Waitrose is excellent and food quality and good welfare standards for animal products and for those growing tropical products is very important to me. I am sure they are not perfect, who is, but I trust them more than I would trust most of the alternative supermarkets.

Update! - received my Waitrose shop for the first time. Everything as ordered, timing was brilliant and so far pleased with every item I ordered. Obviously not had anything to eat yet but everything looks appetising. Suffice to say glad I made the effort to try them out and offers offered by them brilliant. Thanks Waitrose

Just to throw a spanner in the works; I saw online earlier today that waitrose customers were horrified to find Aldi labels underneath the waitrose ones!

I have only ever eaten three samples of food from Aldi and quite honestly each was truly unpleasant. It seemed unlikely that Waitrose would want their food in their stores.

So, I looked the story up and the food did not come directly from Waitrose but was in an Ocado order.

When I looked up the source of the items Ocado sells. I found the following quote Ocado's products include own brand groceries from the Waitrose supermarket chain as well as their own Ocado brand, but also a selection of name brand groceries and other items, including flowers, toys and magazines.

So I think the problem lies with Ocado, not Waitrose.

I shop online with Sainsburys and Waitrose and I often see items are cheaper in Waitrose which was a surprise

Offers seem to move from one store to another and if I pay attention I can follow the best offers,

I don't have an Aldi or Lidl and also they don't do Online so I don't even have that option,
