Why do so many people only get the top set done?

It seems that every time we watch the TV nowadays there is someone beating their gums showing off a brilliant white top set of teeth and a much more natural looking row of bottom choppers. ( Rylan Clarke Neal being an exception, his teeth must be visible from space). Is there a reason, apart from cost, that so many “TV” people just get the one lot done?

Calendargirl Fri 29-Nov-19 19:15:47

Saving up for the bottom set?

Tedber Fri 29-Nov-19 19:18:06

Ha ha...Alima...maybe they just think the top ones will be 'on show' What do you mean about getting the lot done? If there is nothing wrong with the bottom ones, other than looking natural, then why bother?

Do people still have false teeth? I thought it was just the extremely elderly who "had them out" when they were younger.

midgey Fri 29-Nov-19 21:09:21

I think Alima means their teeth have been whitened! Not false teeth, otherwise known as corporation clackers in our house!

Tangerine Fri 29-Nov-19 22:42:53

Corporation clackers - hilarious! I must remember that phrase.

BlueBelle Fri 29-Nov-19 23:01:48

I ve never noticed only the top set done Cowell s got them both hasn’t he and Rylan ? Who else is there

"Corporation clackers" grin Love it!

What's more, some celebs seem to have concentrated only on whitening the front teeth. If they smile/grin/laugh too broadly, you can see the yellow ones further back!

Maybe, like sheep, they only have a bottom set of teeth and need to get plastic ones.

Unless they are eco-obsessed in which cas e they get paper teeth.

Or very rich, in which case they can stipulate porcelain.

Or if they are George Washington, they use other people's teeth.
He once trialled some wooden ones but they didn't last and he wasn't up to chopping his own choppers after the incident with the Cherry Tree.

The celeb teeth are usually veneers costing thousands, so if their bottom set are not visible a lot of the time, they obviously don't consider them worth the expense. Also I believe it is painful to bite on veneers, so at least they can use the bottoms.

I know he’s not a celebrity although he thinks he is, but Gregg Wallace has a perfectly formed upper set and bottom teeth which look like collapsed dominoes.

silverscarlett Sat 30-Nov-19 09:27:04

This is the result of having expensive veneers done on the upper teeth only. It’s really tricky to have veneers done successfully on lower teeth as they are so small, so if they are of regular appearance (and the patient is happy with them) it’s common to just whiten the lower teeth. This should always be done first, with the veneers being made to match the shade achieved., then the end result is good. The mis matched appearance happens when either the patient has opted only to have the uppers done ( usually due to cost) or they have tried to whiten the lowers after having the veneers done, probably having requested a shade that their own teeth are never going to achieve, even with whitening.

I was watching the GE debate last night and Rebecca Long-Bailey has joined the band of uppers-only. So there is a reason for the discrepancy in colour of the upper and lower teeth. Wonder if any of them realise how noticeable it is. Bit like trout-pout, obviously the way to go if you are a fashion victim.

Teeth apart I can’t stand him even the mention of his name. He’s a grinning moron. I’ve heard he’s a pain to work with and loves himself.

Cp43 Sat 30-Nov-19 09:46:33

Greg Wallace that is.

BusterTank Sat 30-Nov-19 09:53:25

Perhaps realizing the pain they went through , it wasn't worth it for the bottom ones .

Paperbackwriter Sat 30-Nov-19 10:03:59

If the teeth are whitened, you can only get the natural teeth done. It is possible that some celebs have a few crowns at the back and the colour of those can't be changed simply by laser whitening (or any other sort of process)

GrannyLaine Sat 30-Nov-19 10:29:57

@shysal I don't know where you heard that its painful to bite on veneers? Definitely untrue - I have several. I really dislike the look of overly whitened death, do they ever consider what they will look like when they are elderly ??

4allweknow Sat 30-Nov-19 10:50:12

All those brilliant white oversized teeth have had veneers on them. Or in the case of aged film stars, anyone seen Joan Collins lately, they definitely look like implants as they are made big to help keep the upper lip pushed out helping to maintain a decent lip line. An absolutes mess and so obvious. Do these people think us public don't know they are all artificial.

grandtanteJE65 Sat 30-Nov-19 10:55:44

Yes, a lot of people do still have whole or partial dentures. My DH is one of them.

They look extremely natural now, so unless the wearer has told you that he or she doesn't have their own teeth, you would probably never notice.

Not everyone can use implants - it depends on the bone structure of the jaw, apparently whether you can or not, and, of course, the health or otherwise of your bank account!

notanan2 Sat 30-Nov-19 10:56:39

Veneers look painful it would prob be too much to have em all done at once

jaylucy Sat 30-Nov-19 11:01:18

My son has implants - the whole lot of them and where he had them done, they made sure that they haven't made them to stick out in any way! He's still paying for them!
There is one sports reporter on BBC had obviously had her top teeth whitened but every time she spoke, it looked as if she had forgotten the bottom ones! Thankfully, it looks as if these have now been done!

Grannycool52 Sat 30-Nov-19 12:06:18

I find Rylan's appearance rather startling.
Much prefer the natural look!

KarenDerna Sat 30-Nov-19 12:50:27

I find Greg Wallace extremely annoying, the ridiculous faces he makes on Masterchef are so over the top, surely the other presenters must laugh about it ?
Over white teeth are just a silly fashion for people who have too much money and are not confident
