A new cold call

I'd just got in yesterday when the phone rang and a pleasant lady with what sounded like an Indian accent asked for me by name and gave my address. Since she had that information I waited to see what she had to say.

She went into a long a rambling account about taking medication (I'm not at the moment), the waiting times for ambulances to arrive and how worrying it might be if I fell in the shower and was unconscious and couldn't phone for help. It seemed at first as if she might be selling some sort of private medical insurance.

I went on listening and making non-committal noises. In the end it turned out that she was on about medical alert pendants.

I laughed and said that I'm not yet old or ill enough to need something like that (hopefully DH will pick me up if I fall in the shower!). Of course, she just carried on and I put the phone down.

Now where did she get my information and why are companies cold calling about things like that?

When asked to confirm my details I once replied,
"Are you collecting information?" in a firm and confident manner and she put the phone down on me, thus taking away my chance to do that to her. I felt a bit miffed as I like to press the block button. These pests still find a way of getting through.
Have you ever listened to 'Lenny' on You Tube? If you put this in your search engine with other details like 'spam phone calls' and the like you can hear a robot pretending to be an ordinary punter who kids them on until they realise they'd been had. One way to get your own back if you have the time and inclination.
