Good morning dry at last in Derbyshire.

We are going to Nottingham today on the train,hope it stays dry,it's DIL's birthday so will have lunch out.

Good morning from a very grey, damp Essex. Managed most of my Xmas wrapping last night so feel slightly ahead! My DS's birthday today (what a lovely time to have had a baby) and we are going out for a family lunch followed by a Santa Experience at a local farm. We went last year and after 2 hours of visiting various rooms and activities, I was almost overcome with excitement when we met Him!! Think the DGS's enjoyed it as well. ?
Hope everyone has a good day despite the weather and Gillybobs continue to improve and that tree is up?xxx

Good morning all. Looks dull and dreary out there in the West of ScotLand. Had a nice lie in. Will do a bit of tidying up and a washing, then son, daughter in law and granddoggy coming to visit this afternoon.

I am going to do the food shopping with DD today.Grandpa is staying at home with the children?hopefully their daddy will come back for his lunch break while we are out.

Good morning from an overcast NE.
Slept in this morning after a very late bedtime.
I went shopping last night when everyone else was settled in front of the TV, it was a doddle as the supermarket was almost empty. I struck lucky too because they had 25% off if you bought six bottles of wine.
Reorganised the freezer last night and threw away quite a lot of meats that had been hiding and looked past its best.
Today I will look for Christmas napkins in the dining room instead of buying yet another pack.

Slept in after a late night so still not dressed! Have a basket of ironing to do this morning. A friend just rang to invite me for coffee later. Carol service and village pub Christmas quiz this evening.

Good morning. Even with a Christmas”off” (I got married in August second time around and felt I needed time off) still plenty to do today. Rashly volunteered to sing at church tonight, but it’s far more serious than I thought . Four hours and no loo in church! Then off to Marazion tomorrow early with the dogs for a few days beach walking and good grub then home to host a family day on 30th.

Ellan; Sorry to hear that. You probably know as much about it from your TV News as us. It's sad enough to watch, let alone live with it. One newscast recently showed people in their CBD district standing in the streets clutching face masks because smoke had entered office blocks and triggered smoke detectors; OH&S regs require evacuation, of course. My kitchen detector goes off at the slightest hint of over doing the toast, but that's a bit different!
Here in Melbourne (about 1,000km away), we never experience anything like that, even though we had a 45C day last Thursday.Today has been beautiful, cloudless, total sun 25C, hardly any wind, but what amazes me is how aircraft can still find water to drop on the fires considering we are also in the middle of one of the worst droughts ever.
It's horrifying for those living close; lives lost, homes burned to the ground and terrible loss of livestock and wildlife.
Nature will re-establish herself eventually of course, but at what cost? It's ironic to think that the whole thing is nature at work anyway! I do so hope that your family and others get calmer weather soon.

Good morning from a very grey and dark North East coast .

Not much sleep was had by either of us last night unfortunately . Mr G was up and down all night and my poor face and mouth was pounding . I am even more swollen this morning despite the recommenced cool packs .

Have made the (possibly foolish) decision to invite my dad, sister, daughter and little Evie over for some kind of Christmas dinner as felt terrible imagining them all sitting alone.

Have ordered quite a few bits from Amazon but must try and do some kind of a shop today or tomorrow .

Feeling utterly miserable despite knowing there are people far worse off than we are but it’s so hard to shake off this feeling .

Hope those feeling poorly or sad feel better soon . Where is that we so desperately need ?

I'm so sorry to read things are still so difficult for you Gilly. That sunshine really does need to come your way soon.

Regarding Christmas, could you not possibly ask your sister and DD to prepare something to bring along as a contribution to make things a little easier for you. Even a shop bought desert would be a help. You really do take on so much, but I know it's just in your nature to be continually thinking of others.

Yesterday's gymnastics show with little GD was a real treat and I couldn't have felt more proud watching her spinning and whizzing through the air. The smile on her face throughout was one of pure joy.

Well, back to making the house all spick and span for Santa coming. Just why do I bother when within ten minutes of the family arriving on Christmas Eve it will be wrecked!

MawB and Kitty we love Southwold, especially the quirky pier games, and Aldeburgh, it doesn’t take us much more than an hour hour and half to get there.

Good morning everyone from South Manchester where it’s dry and sunny again - yay! So late posting this morning as eldest daughter and partner stayed over and soshoers and a cooked breakfast ?

They have just set off to the airport now to fly to Hamburg for their Christmas with relatives in Germany.

I’m waiting for our grandson to arrive. He and I will play here then I shall take him down into the square for lunch. It is nice to have one-on-one time occasionally.

I will read the whole of this thread later today. If I’d attempted that first I’m sure our boy would have arrived before I’d chance to post.

Hope Sunday is good to us all whether we have plans or none. x

Had a very long lunch out yesterday with my 3 children and their families, the first time we’d all been together at the same time since 2015 so it meant the world to me. The older cousins kept youngest of 15 months entertained for the duration. Traffic was a lot lighter than I’d been expecting.

Had to be up and out earlier than usual this morning, as DH was doing the AV for Church. (All went well)
So I shall read through the whole thread a bit later.
As we are going to the carol service this evening, I decided to have our dinner, at lunch time ?, instead of this evening.
So I am now feeling very full and ready for a zzzzzz.
Before the carols, there will be a Living Nativity, tea and cake, which sounds very nice.
Hope we can get a parking place near the Church
Commiserations to Gillybob, please go back to your dentist and do check that the swelling doesn't go too far.

Can't you postpone Christmas celebrations until you are both well. Gillybob? Do new year instead.
