Have you seen any of the Royal Family up close?

The queen came to my workplace once, that was quite close up, though not to speak to.

And as a teenager, I watched the queen and Princess Anne drive past in Torquay. What surprised me was that they were in colour!

Yes I live in London and have been several times on a bus which was held up to allow a motorcade with her maj to come past. I also have been to the Garter Ceremony at Windsor Castle with all the RF in all the regalia. Also my YDS was a chorister at St Paul's and they attended several ceremonies which the parents were allowed to attend so yes I’ve seen them numerous times. I have shaken hands with the DOE , plus my OH has been to Highgrove and hobnobbed with PC , but so what I’m not a monarchist.

Have had a 10 minute conversation with Prince Edward, (he was very knowledgeable and friendly) Mr.Gravy has met Prince Philip, he had a good sense of humour and did not take himself seriously.

Growing up around horse racing and have long worked for the Ministry of Defence, I’ve seen all of the major royals close to and some of the minor ones - it’s very obvious that they’re just ordinary people doing an extraordinary job. The closest I’ve been to the Queen was about three feet away at a Buck House garden party 7 years ago. She glows.

Prince Philip, only on a walkabout but stopped and spoke and was amusing.

I was introduced to the Queen in the 1970s, just a brief handshake. A small lady but a great presence.

As an event manager in my former life I can say I have shaken hands with Prince Philip (and Maggie Thatcher, come to that!) and had events with Prince Edward, Princess Alexandra and the Duchess of Kent, all of who were charming. The humdinger was Princess Margaret, who drank whisky and smoked like a chimney all the way through an awards dinner and managed to spend the entire evening looking thoroughly bored. She had lovely skin, though, despite the booze and fags!

I saw Princess Diana close up, it was at a cup final at Wembley stadium I was on duty as a first aider.

My daughter saw Princess Diana up close when, just after her divorce, she came to the office (law firm) to get some tax advice. She had two instant impressions, how thin she was and how clean she looked.

Saw the Queen walk by, with Prince Philip years ago, where I used to work, and also had a quick conversation with Diana in

The Queen is very tiny and dainty, Diana was tall.?

HM opened Liverpool One some twelve years ago. DGD, aged five, was clasping a posy of flowers to present. HM took them, smiled and said thank you. DGD, awestruck, turned round to the crowd and said, “Isn’t she polite?”. Lady in waiting vastly amused - as was I.

I met Princess Anne in one of my volunteering roles. She was very knowledgeable, as grannygravy said but also 'got' the things I talked to her about. I thought she was lovely.

Back in the 80’s went to the World Ploughing Match, held in this country. Shocking weather, up to your ankles in mud. As DH and the children and I were trudging down a country lane back to our car, a limousine came past carrying Princess Alexandra, who had opened the event. We all stood at the side of the road waving, she leaned over, smiling and waving back.
Made my day!

I've met Prince Andrew twice through work. I know he's out of favour at the moment but I have to say, he was very well briefed, asked very perceptive questions and was very pleasant. He went out of his way at the end of the visit to seek me out (I'd guided him on part of the tour) and shake my hand and thank me.

I saw Princess Diana when she opened our new cottage hospital.
DH and I went to a garden party at Buck Palace and saw the Queen walking around.

In 1983, Prince Charles and Diana came to the 600th Anniversary of our town, St Columb Major. I got to speak to them both (although Princess D didn't reply! ) .

The whole town was dressed in costume and my elder boy was a longbowman.
Prince Charles was telling us about the longbows, made from English Yew, found on the Mary Rose.
He was quite open to our curious questions, which I thought very good of him, as they didn't have much time and had to helicopter off to Plymouth for an official dinner

I haven't, but my mum was in hospital in Huddersfield when Princess Diana visited and actually shook her hand.

I saw Princess Di years ago when she was opening the wing of a hospital and spoke to Prince Edward at an event to commemorate the D Day landings in Normandy a few years ago.

I received the Duke of Edinburgh's Award: Young Canadians Challenge Gold Award from Prince Philip during a royal visit to Canada. Hubby, an avid monarchist, is thrilled to be only two degrees removed from the Royal Family!

My son, a police officer, saw the queen a couple of years ago, and said "mum, she's a totey wee thing!" Meaning so small.

I saw Princess Diana, opening a local hospice. She looked slender and beautiful. Enough said about what I think about that one.............

I was part of the entourage to show the Duke of Kent around when he came to my place of work to open a refurbished building. He was very pleasant, I jsut answered the odd question.
