Still haven’t taken Christmas decs down! Valid reason though.

Left home well before dawn last Monday, since dd had gone into labour with no. 3. Would have taken them down on the Sunday, but had 2 nieces from abroad arriving (we are in loco parentis) with one of them staying with us Monday night before returning to school, so wanted it still up for her.

So a very busy and exciting Monday - with tenterhooks thrown in! - lovely little new Dgd born Monday pm, with dh back and forth to airport/school etc.

Finally back home last night, so I’ve now made a start by taking all the lametta and ornaments off. Rest will have to wait until we’re showered and dressed!
Needles everywhere, so rather than getting it out of the front door for collection, we’ll probably chop it up in situ for dh to take to garden waste at the tip.

I usually feel sad when dismantling the tree but not this time, when Christmas is so well and truly over.

I read somewhere, and the written word is never wrong, is it?
,that the Queen has the decs left up at Sandringham until she leaves in February.
If that is true you are in good company.
Congratulations to you all on the new arrival, I am so envious of all with new babies.

Congratulations! Perfect reason. smile Mine will be up until the 31st because I live alone, nobody to fuss at me, and I like looking at them. smile

Congratulations, witzend! A brilliant excuse!!

I've left some lights up as the batteries haven't died and I've also left some worms with santa hats in the pot by the front door. Dd1 came last week and gave me a funny look and said, 'Do you know that you've left some decorations up?' - obviously concerned that I've lost the plot!

Congratulations Witzend, what lovely and exciting news. ??
No problem regarding the decorations, you've had a very good reason. I've also read that the Queen likes her decs left up at Sandringham until she leaves in February - it probably coincides with Michaelmas (Feb 2nd this year).

Sorry, Candlemas not Michaelmas, which is in September! ?

Me too Witzend for different (not as joyful) reasons. We left our mini fibre optic Christmas tree up out here in Malaga as we planned to be back out here on NYD so decided to leave it up. We had to cancel that flight as I had a horrid gastric bug over Christmas & NY.

We arrived back in Spain last night and himself put the tree away into its box this morning!

We ook ours down dutifully on the 6th but practically nobody had seen them.

I haven't put them away yet because there are a few items of table linens till to be washed and ironed, then I shall go through the cards again and reply to them, although I wrote to most people with my own cards, which I sent off early.

Taking down the decorations is one thing, but it's nearly the end of January before everything is really done. Hope to get it done before the snowdrops are out!

I'm looking forward to putting out primulas to brighten the dull front door now there's no wreath or fairy lights on it.

Congratulations on the DGD, witzend, that was a hectic week!

Our latest grandson came just before Christmas and it is such a joy!

Thank you all for congrats - Dgd is very sweet - and ditto to you, JackyB for your little Dgs!

What a palaver with the tree lights though - we had two sets on, one warm white and one old-fashioned twinkly coloured. Anyone who invented Christmas tree lights that don’t get themselves into a bugger’s muddle of a tangle would make a fortune! Took us ages to sort them out.

All done now though, and I’ve been thoroughly lazy ever since, flaked out on the sofa with the Kindle - bliss.
