I’ve just been looking at old photos, and have seen one of me from fifteen years ago, wearing a jacket I still wear!

tanith Sat 08-Feb-20 17:47:54

I have a trench coat I’ve had nearly 25yrs it’s miles too big for me now but I’ve always loved it and it cost an arm and a leg I can’t bear to get rid.

I have a 'St Michaels' dressing gown which must be around 25 years old. I rarely wear it as I prefer fleece pyjamas when I get up in the morning.

grannybiker Sat 08-Feb-20 18:02:39

Not too old in the wealth of examples out there, but those black opaque tights... Our daughter at less than 5' and size 8 used to wear them every day to school. I often wore them to work too, so to distinguish when they'd been washed, I'd sew a length of red cotton inside the hem and tie it off on all mine. Worked at treat.
Came across some with red cotton the other day. She left school 19 years ago! shock

grannybiker Sat 08-Feb-20 18:04:07

Anyone else still got any C&A clothing? I've not long replaced my purple ski jacket from nearly 30 years ago! shock

Calendargirl Sat 08-Feb-20 18:31:28

I have St. Michael cardigans, probably about 25 years old, a blouse I wore for an interview, well that’s 20 years ago, some tatty pyjamas my mum bought me the last Christmas before she died, she’s been dead 15 years.
You can probably tell my clothes are not the height of fashion, and my purchases will not help the economy.

Septimia Sat 08-Feb-20 18:46:42

Maybe it doesn't really count, but for me it's my wedding dress - it was my mum's originally, so dates from 1940. Otherwise it's the crochet cardigan I bought as part of my 'going-away' outfit in 1975.

Yes grannybiker, I wear the casual coat my DD wore when at high school for working in the garden and that was from C & A. It must be about 29 years old now and I think it will see my gardening days out.

Grammaretto Sat 08-Feb-20 18:59:53

I still have my checked duffle coat. I see it appeared in one of our 25th wedding anniversary photos (and it wasn't new then) and we celebrated 50 years last year.
My excuse is they don't make 'em like that anymore.

annep1 Sat 08-Feb-20 19:13:32

I have a maxi skirt with bib top bought 1975. Don't wear it but kept it.

M0nica Sat 08-Feb-20 19:21:39

I bought a hooded cardigan in C&A this time last year. The C&A in Marseilles.

I have still a thick woollen knitted sweater that I bought in 1963. I rarely wear it now but it was in regular use into the 1990s.

I also wear on very special occasions an embroidered Chinese silk coat that my mother bought in Hong Kong in the mid 1950s.

My oldest piece of clothing is my Gansey jumper. But most people know them as Guernsey jumpers. That must be over 30 years old.
My camel overcoat, about 15 years but still looks very good.
My silk suit that I bought in Shanghai. I walked into the shop and it was love at first sight. The only trouble is, there's only so many times you can wear something so stunning.
Lastly, my Max Mara cashmere blazer. The price of that has been deliberately wiped from my memory but I've never regretted a penny. It's as good as the day I bought it: over 20 years ago.

Curlywhirly Sat 08-Feb-20 20:17:46

I have quite a few things over 25 years old - lovely camel trench coat, black cashmere coat, black cigarette trousers that fit like a glove, black satin stilettoes with crossover ankle straps, navy blazer, and a few other things too. But my oldest thing is a lovely pair of loafers in really soft black kid leather with a gold chain at the front, they are leather soled and leather lined and the most comfy pair of shoes I have ever had - I bought them in 1985! I dug them out about 3 years ago and they're still going strong - not bad for £30!

I have a scarf which was bought in the 1940's. Scarves don't really date so could wear it now with a jacket. I've worn it on the odd occasion.

The scarf wasn't mine in the first place.

I've kept a wool pencil skirt circa 1977 to remind me of past glories - its label says it's a size 10 and the waistband measures 22 inches.

Funnily enough, I don't wear it now. Even though despite my 30 inch waist I'm still a size 10. hmm

I have quite a few items that have worn well and still get an occasional outing. The shoes I bought for my daughter's Christening in 1982 came in useful for her wedding, once I'd given up on the new heels that were slowly crippling me!

SueDonim Sat 08-Feb-20 22:24:22

My wedding dress, which dates from 1972. I don’t wear it now. grin

My 2yo granddaughter wears a cotton jumper that has a St Michael label and belonged to her mum, my dd, who is in her early 30’s. In fact dd recently asked me if her Laura Ashley dresses were still around. Sadly, no.

Oh, I do still have a lovely kilt, which must be about 40yo. It’s a size 10 but doesn’t go anywhere near my dd who is a size 8. confused

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 23:00:40

grannybiker I have some C&A boots and a jumper - kept 'just in case!'

Scribbles Sat 08-Feb-20 23:00:58

A Frank Usher top all covered in pearls and sequins which must be about 20 years old. It's beautiful but I rarely go to the sort of event that justifies getting it out of the wardrobe.

Callistemon Sat 08-Feb-20 23:14:19

Oh yes! I have a Frank Usher black sequinned top bought in about 1996, bought for a cruise, worn a couple of times to formal dinners and under wraps ever since.
I forgot that, thanks for reminding me Scribbles.

It's quite heavy and I don't go to those kind of 'do's' any more either.
I had a very nice black chiffon silk skirt to go with it but gave that to my SisIL.

Chestnut Sat 08-Feb-20 23:22:41

My oldest item is a beaver lamb fur coat from the 1950s or earlier which belonged to my aunt. Beaver lamb is actually sheep's wool thank goodness!
Second oldest is a beautiful dress my mother made for me in 1968. It's very short so I can't wear that unless I wore leggings with it, might look a bit odd at my age.
There's another lovely girlie cotton summer dress from about 1980.
Lastly there's a colourful shell suit from about 1990.
I don't wear any of them!
The oldest thing I wear is a navy fleece from C&A from 1997 which belonged to my dad. It's fine for doing dirty jobs.

Elrel Sat 08-Feb-20 23:25:41

When I had my daughter my mother gave me a warm and beautiful quilted satiny dressing gown, patterned with fuchsias. It is still in the wardrobe and occasionally worn, my daughter is over 50.
My mother often got presents wrong, that one could not have been more right!

1999 M and S cream blazer £50 reduced from £90.

quizqueen Sun 09-Feb-20 00:22:21

I've still got woollen ponchos from the 60s which I bought from Etams- they look and wash like new. I used one to breastfeed under when out and about in the 80s but now I mainly just use them for fancy dress or I take them on holiday for sitting under on coaches with air conditioning. I'm always cold then as usually I'm just dressed in a T shirt/shorts, if I'm in a hot place.

NotSpaghetti Sun 09-Feb-20 01:24:39

A 1910(ish) coat that was my grandmother's. I still wear it.
A late 50s wool coat that was my mother's (needs some mending but will do it over the next week or two) - have worn this a lot.
A dress of mine from 1979. Still in great condition.

NotSpaghetti Sun 09-Feb-20 01:26:40

I do have older clothes than these- but these are still in regular use.
