Today decided to de clutter my wardrobe, and finding out I’ve got flared and bootleg trousers cigarette trousers, etc etc do I give to charity or do I keep just in case they all come into fashion again one day! I’m very much into my skinny leggings, jeans, I’m thinking maybe they should go as I tried the bootleg ones on and even those I thought, oh too much material at the bottom, so I’ve put them in charity bag, eaten my lunch had a cuppa and still pondering stay or goooo haha

GNW That is why I never have and never will wear flares

I’ve managed to catch my foot in a pair of wide leg trousers and trip down the stairs. I’ve done it twice in recent months and for that reason I’ve stopped wearing them. On both occasions I was fortunately on the last couple of steps and it was more of a trip, skip and a jump to the floor and managed to avoid a proper fall. But it was enough to shake me up and consign the wide leg trousers to the charity bag.

There was an article in DM today saying flairs are returning to fashion, complete with photos of celebrities wearing them.

^I don't know about bootleg trousers, but last summer, I searched endlessly for wide leg, white trousers, without an elastic waist - nothing anywhere. ...
Not too much of an ask surely ?^

Tell you what Dollymac, when you have a wife as talented as mine you don't need to search, she makes most of my clothes, even 1920's style Oxford Bags.

If anyone is looking for something of a vintage style, like Dollymac, I can give you many a trader's link. Here's those baggy pants.

I do the same Greeneyedgirl. A lot of us buy too much and wear only a few items regularly. I'm trying to change and wear things out now and only buy a minimum, because it is nice to have something new. We used to manage with far fewer items of clothing.

Greeneyedgirl Wed 19-Feb-20 17:18:31

Every now and then I take all my clothes out of the wardrobe & try them on. Some things that I thought looked ok when I bought them really don't suit me, presumably because I bought 'fashionable'.

I am short so resemble a hobbit in 'cut offs'. Most wide leg trousers likewise, unless in a drapey fabric, and I'm quite strict so off they go to charity.

I find I wear about 3 tops, 2 jumpers, and 2 or 3 pairs of trousers regularly, and a few things for "going out"so could ditch a lot of superfluous stuff. I think we buy too much.

IMO fashion never really comes back in style in quite the same way, but with subtle changes, and old stuff just looks - dated...

In answer to your question Trendynanny, I would keep them. If you have too many and can afford to, you could share some with charity shop. It's always nice to buy something new.

I still like mine with long tops. But I like straight legs too with shorter tops. I love wide trousers, they look very dressy, but not wide jeans.

Exactly Annep1 !

BBbevan Wed 19-Feb-20 15:00:27

Well all my skinny jeans are ready to eBay !!!

annep1 Wed 19-Feb-20 13:58:16

Do you think so MawB?
That makes me feel better. I don't know why they don't just mark the vouchers valid until...

MawB Wed 19-Feb-20 13:06:57

That’s what I do (the “rebuying/returning” thing.) I expect everybody does!

annep1 Wed 19-Feb-20 12:53:46

Leg lengths may vary MawB but overall compared to other stores, I find the sizing quite good. Mine fit perfectly. One pair a little long but look nice turned up. They have rails of wide leg trouers/jeans too. And the quality seems good.
Callistemon I know. But they can't be used until Thursday. So I am actually rebuying online along with a few other things and returning these. I may seem mean but I don't see the point in wasting money.

20% off though, annep! I have vouchers.

Annp1 it won’t be the first time M&S have clung to outdated styles will it? That seems to constitute one of the principal sources of complaint here and elsewhere. But flicking through their online site, I am seeing more wide-leg trousers.

In the past I have always found really good trousers at M&S and some great jeans, but the fabrics in the last year or two have become flimsier and I suppose cheaper in every sense. Their sizing is also erratic - leg lengths can vary from colour to colour in the same style (and even from leg to leg on the same garment ?)
I know they want to keep costs down but when it is at the expense of quality they will continue to lose custom.

annep1 Tue 18-Feb-20 22:51:21

If skinny are totally last year, M&S are going to be left with a lot of stock because there are rails and rails of versions of skinny.
Mind you I didn't buy any. I bought a slim pair and a straight pair. Great fit. M&S are still my favourite shop for trousers. The selection of trousers and jeans is fantastic.

nannyof4 Tue 18-Feb-20 19:28:36

I prefer bootcut jeans on me,rather than skinny jeans as have slim legs and doesnt feel right.

GreenGran78 Tue 18-Feb-20 00:32:55

I have dropped 2 stones since I got my new hip, and desperately need some new clothes, especially trousers. I am 5ft tall, and need 26 inch leg pants, which aren't easy to find. I can't afford to pay a lot, especially as I need virtually a whole new wardrobe.
I wish that I was clever enough to re-make my old clothes to fit me.

AlisonKF Mon 17-Feb-20 21:35:44

The vogue for trousers cut off above the ankle does nobody any favours except the young and slim with delicately turned ankles. I see leggings and skinny jeans as passe apart from teenagers. The most elegant trousers for older women are straight cut, reaching down to the top of the foot. I think high heels with trousers are pretty silly. Always check the inside leg measurement!

Hold on to the charity bag - it's not a case of 'if' wide and boot legs come back - they are already here.

granbabies123 Mon 17-Feb-20 20:14:59

They say if you've worn it once you shouldn't wear it again when it returns to fashion. Maybe charity bag and then whoopie, room in wardrobe to buy new.

Phoebes Mon 17-Feb-20 19:31:47

Bootcuts/flares are coming back into fashion at the moment, so hang on to them!

Saggi Mon 17-Feb-20 18:23:00

Never joined the bootleg fashion..... so I’d put them in charity shop..... and hope it’s NEVER comes back.

Phloembundle Mon 17-Feb-20 17:35:39

I noticed that very wide leg trousers have come back into fashion. I think linen wide legs are nice. With jeans, I haven't worn boot cut for years because they just aren't me. However, they do seem to suit some people.
