Thank goodness for Big Government and Experts

In light of the impending pandemic thank goodness for big government and experts - often derided by the Right.

It was interesting and reassuring to see the prime minister at yesterday's press conference, flanked by Prof Chris Whitty, chief medical officer, and Sir Patrick Vallance, chief scientific adviser.

Who needs SPADS and the likes of Cummings?

In the end we rely on the Civil Service, the army, the police, NHS, Environmental Health and all the other public servants, when there's real work to be done.

A strange post Riverwalk ?
Nothing to do with right or left wing politics, and why on earth would the PM be taking advice from any spads on something to do with health? Especially on a brand new virus.
I think the government have got the advice and tone and planning absolutely spot on.

I agree Riverwalk, and I was reassured by what Prof Whitty and Sir Patrick had to say. It was also good to see Johnson deferring to them during the question and answer session. I watched a video of Trump on the same subject, and he was saying everything is fine, and had to be corrected on a number of points. He didn’t understand the difference between a vaccine and a cure. Lemongrove , Dominic Cummings has been open about his despising of experts.

Amazing! Until last weekend, it was the vocal Johnson critics who were telling us he was incompetent and doing nothing!

I think we are big enough to give credit where it is due.
