Loads of youngsters around in groups who seem totally oblivious to what’s happening in this country and around the world. Also traffic just the same as any Saturday in a city, can’t imagine where they’ve been or where their going to!. Definately not listening, it’s as thought they think it can’t possible happen to them and don’t care about the older generation.

Not just youngsters.
I'll name and shame moggy 57 who is boasting elsewhere on the site about her 'mountains and molehills' attitude.

Let them find out the hard way, Mcem, they'll soon stop the gung-ho attitude.

The problem is the young are young and all that goes with that. I can remember it well. However everyone has to take this virus seriously, there is some work to be done to get them all on board..

It's definitely not just youngsters who are ignoring the advice. Lots of older people in the over 70 at risk group are ignoring it as well. We will all soon be in lockdown if people don't act more responsibly.

Ageist comment - aren’t you reading about the GNers who aren’t listening either?

GagaJo Sat 21-Mar-20 20:16:12

Yes, suziewoozie, LOTS of comments about the essential visit to the hairdressers. FFS

The rules saying we must retreat to our homes does not come into place until Monday. Until then, if people wish to go shopping/hairdresser etc they are free to do so. Since last night we are now doing everything the government required us to do by Monday, even before that we were fulfilling most of the requirements if not all.

If it wasn't safe to do that we would not have been told we could.

I have no idea what younger people are doing, as we live in a village and when we were out this week youngsters were still at school or work.

But under 25s always think they are immortal with a built-in immunity from harm. That is why they make such good soldiers.

Suziewozzie. No I’m not!. How often do you see groups of adults sitting around with nothing to do in the middle of the afternoon. What I did see today were groups of teenagers milling around without a care in the world and I believe something should be done about it. It’s totally irresponsible behaviour.

Greymar Sat 21-Mar-20 20:32:05

Oh they do have a care in the world, infact their world has been spoilt. So sad.

suziewoozie Sat 21-Mar-20 20:39:52

There are complete idiots in all age groups - just leave off being so divisive and criticise the behaviour itself. And criticise this government for not being stricter.

EllanVannin Sat 21-Mar-20 20:42:25

So far here in Wirral there are 10 known cases. Wouldn't it be good if we could keep it to that ?

Nightsky2 Sat 21-Mar-20 20:54:26

Susiewozzie. I simply commented on what I saw today. I hope BJ will make it crystal clear to people of all ages that they shouldn’t be getting together in groups.

My son (28) has sent me a photograph of him and his friends having a houseparty this evening.

He and his three housemates on one webcam, and the other four friends on webcams in their own homes smile

I think young and old alike are guilty of "I'm alright, Jack" and not being willing to be told by the government/PM what they can or can't do.

Unfortunately, the longer they refused to socially isolate, the longer we will all HAVE to.

GagaJo Sat 21-Mar-20 21:23:16

It's not about rules, though is it? It's KNOWING that what we are about to face is what Italy is going through now and having the common sense to STOP risky behaviour.

No one NEEDS a haircut so bad it is worth risking theirs or anyone elses life for. So yes, some young people ARE behaving like idiots and were in the pubs/clubs last night. But plenty of older people are acting stupidly too.

SirChenjin Sat 21-Mar-20 21:27:57

Massive problem round here with large groups of teenagers acting like idiots - they’ve obviously decided this means a few months of fun with the schools closed. Until there’s a lockdown they simply won’t get the message.

Er there are whole threads on here about people going on bus, hairdressers, etc etc.

A friend in a nearby small town sent me some pics of deserted streets, closed shops and text that on her way home from work 8 miles distant, she encountered 1 other person.
She text that there are no people standing around and no noise, no music, no laughter, nothing. A dead town.
You might see the odd person in my town but that's because we have a large Waitrose and Sainsbury's, however, I can agree with her that the only noise post 8pm is the odd passing car, yet there is a large number of young people in the population here and surrounding villages.

We did a hit and run in the car this morning to drop off a birthday present . We’ve been isolating for a couple of weeks now and having watched London on the news yesterday I thought the streets would be almost deserted . I was shocked to see how busy it was. People doing what they always do. I thought I must have got the advice wrong .
People were very close to each other. If large numbers of them get the virus there will be no ventilators for our age group. I was really cross . Don’t they know ? Don’t they watch the tv ?
